Fr. Glenn: Where Your Treasure Lay

By Rev. Glenn Jones
Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church

Another weekend. Where are those classifieds?

One thing I like to do on weekends is to haunt the garage/yard/estate sales. I usually don’t do much more than take up space, because I’m too cheap to buy much (I think my highest purchase to date is $20). Seems like there’s always some little thing that we need here at the church or at the rectory that I can get for 10 percent of full price (or less) at those sales.

And yet … one of the things that always strikes me—especially at larger estate sales—is the ephemeral nature of our earthly Read More

Pastor Granillo: The Slavery Delusion

By Pastor Raul Granillo
La Vista Church
White Rock

This is true of any freedom: You are obligated, if you want to stay free, to not give yourself back to slavery.

The Bible tells about God using Moses to lead the Hebrews out of Egypt. The God, YHWH, freed the Hebrews from their Egyptian slave masters.
Although God used the plagues to reveal His absolute power over Egypt, the Hebrews still found that their fear of Egypt held them in bondage.

At the Red Sea, they saw the Egyptians pursuing them and cried to Moses: Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, “Leave us alone;

Don’t Let Your Investments Go On A ‘Vacation’

Provided by SHELLY WEIMANN
Edward Jones Investments

It’s summer again – time for many of us to take a break and possibly hit the open road. But even if you go on vacation, you won’t want your investments to do the same – in summertime or any other season. How can you help make sure your portfolio continues to work hard for you all year long?

Here are a few suggestions:

Avoid owning too many “low growth” investments. As you know, different investments have different characteristics and can help you in different ways. For example, you typically own stocks because you want them to grow in value so that you Read More

Home design trends are all about creating lush spaces by taking traditional designs and making them modern with unique color texture and material choices. As the saying goes “everything old is new again” rings true, especially in décor. The 1980’s and 1990’s are back again — this time with a 21st-century spin.

Floral wallpaper
The patterns may have changed, but it’s safe to say that wallpaper is experiencing a major renaissance in design. The key is to use an updated pattern in a small dose — like in a powder room or on a bedroom accent Read More

Pet Palooza Offers Week Day Fun

Tom Wyant shows a snake to some curious youngsters this week during the Pet Palooza event Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at the Christian Church on East Road. With the exception of the snakes, real animals were left at home in favor of stuffed animals. The Pet Palooza featured a petting zoo, games and food. Just One Thing To Do This Week: Tell Your Story

By MARY BETH MAASSEN
Los Alamos

Okay, okay, okay. I will tell you about my date with Kenny Loggins. It was a long time ago. He was recently divorced from his first wife and not yet had his naked wedding to his therapist.

These were my pre-Los Alamos days and I had not yet met my now husband. Kenny and I were just two foot-loose (ha-ha) and fun-loving singles enjoying a few days in Sedona, Ariz.

We spent the weekend at a beautiful resort nestled in the red rocks, we browsed interesting shops, enjoyed amazing food, and the highlight was a spectacular outdoor benefit concert where Kenny performed with Jackson Read More

If you drive on our nation’s roadways on a regular basis, your chances of being involved in a road rage incident are very high.

Road rage can be triggered through a gesture, such as being flipped off, by being cut off or through tailgating. It can lead to serious physical injury and even death. Most of the minor events go unreported.

There is something about being behind the wheel of a car that can prompt rage or aggression in even the mildest mannered people. Doctors,
