Fr. Glenn: A Fiery Fathers’ Day
By Rev. Glenn JonesDang … another fire. At the time of this writing, the El Cajete Fire is still going strong; hopefully it will be under control by the time you read this. As you know, one of the greatest tragedies of most wildfires is that they are so often caused simply by persons careless in watching and/or dousing campfires.
Perhaps it is because people in our modern culture have so little experience with open fires in general that keeps such things happening so frequently—the unintended consequences of neglect. Thus we see how little actions Read More

McQuiston: What’s Driving My Personal Auto Insurance Rates?
By ALLEN McQUISTON
The Jemez Agency
I have been getting quite a few calls lately about car insurance rates on the rise. Why are rates going up, even if I am not having accidents?
To start with , you need to understand the function of insurance is to accept the risk from many people to pay for the losses of the few. Personal auto insurance protects car owners from having to personally pay for all the damages they are responsible for, resulting from an auto accident.

My mother prepared three meals a day. It was almost always bacon and eggs in the morning, sandwiches at lunch, and a meat and potatoes dinner complete with an iceberg lettuce salad, and homemade baking soda biscuits. She made this every night. Then the family sat around the table and ate.
Breakfast cereal was seldom seen in her house until long after I graduated from high school. The same with soda. She never had soda in the house unless it was there as a special treat or a guest brought it. We drank ice tea or water, regular tap water with no filter, no fizz, no flavor. We rarely Read More

Can it be done without spending a fortune? Not only is it possible, it is an amazing amount of fun as long as you follow some common sense rules.
Don’t be That Neighbor…
Depending on where you live, the concept of a backyard home theater may be a non-starter due to noise restrictions, safety regulations, or because you live in an apartment and it is unlikely Read More

Motel 6, those legendary roadside purveyors of clean, comfortable rooms where Tom Bodett leaves the light on for you, conducted a survey this year that showed a full 25 million Americans have never seen the ocean.
