How the Hen House Turns: Wild or Alien or What?
How the Hen House Turns: Wild or Alien or What? What if there were aliens living in our solar system ─ aliens native to our solar system, from some other world we hadn’t yet discovered? Would they be after our resources, eager to enslave us, or eat us? Would they be wild, in our sense of the word? I don’t think so. Not if they are like most wild animals on Earth, those not on the hunt, driven by hunger.
When well fed and respected, wild animals (and the wild birds I’ve known) recognize a friendly gesture ─ a peanut placed on the porch railing, a soft Read More

Real Estate Round Table: Preparing Your House for Show and Sell
Real Estate Round Table: Preparing Your House for Show and SellIt’s all about first impressions. The best approach is to recognize and accept that “less is more” and the house should be “white-glove test” clean.
Ample storage space is a draw for most home buyers. If they see too-full cabinets or stuffed closets it gives the impression that the house doesn’t offer enough storage space. Closets and cabinets should be no more than half full. Nothing should be on the floor that isn’t essential (remove stacks and piles). Bookshelves should be sparse and decorative items should be minimal. Read More

Solo Traveler: Themed Travel – Fountains
When on a long trip, I’ve discovered that I don’t get terribly excited about visiting a place until I actually put feet on the ground. Then the smells, sounds, the struggle to understand and be understood, all conspire to light a fire in my heart and make me want to explore.
I read about the Trevi Fountain in Rome and wanted to see it, but I wasn’t savvy enough at the time to use my iPad’s map functions nor had I discovered the iPad’s GPS. Plus, I went to Rome with two other women who had their own agendas about what to see.

Skincare Column: Managing Dry, Itchy Skin
Skincare ColumnAging and years of sun exposure reduce the capacity of your skin to moisturize itself, so your skin often becomes dry, flaky and itchy.
Your skin becomes even drier when humidity is lower in the winter and in dry climates.
To help combat dry skin and itchiness try these tips:
- Avoid using harsh soaps, which are very drying to the skin. Instead, use mild or glycerin soaps on the body such as Alpha Keri, Basis, Eucerin, Neutrogena or Dove.
- Use anti-bacterial soaps only on underarms and genital area, hands and feet. Do not use on your
