While on an Alaskan cruise Saturday, Los Alamos Daily Post photographer/videographer Nate Limback had the opportunity to sail next to an active US Navy Virginia Class SSN attack submarine. According to the cruise captain, it is rare to see a submarine on the surface so far out in the ocean. The Virginia Class SSN is the latest class of advanced capability nuclear powered fast attack submarines, according to the Submarine Industrial Base Council. New Traffic Configuration To Be Installed On I-25 Today
NMDOT News:
SANTA FE — The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) District Five and Mountain States Constructors Inc. will be shifting the southbound lanes of I-25 only today July 11, to the newly reconstructed southbound side of I-25.
Motorists can expect minor delays during this process.
This traffic shift will occur 9 a.m. to noon. The northbound lanes of traffic will remain where they are for two more weeks while preparations are made for their shift to the southbound side of I-25.

Bourque: North Mesa Roundabout Hazard

On May 24 I struck a boy on a bicycle at the roundabout in North Mesa. He was coming from Barranca. He received minor scrapes and is OK.
It was not possible to see this boy despite a witness claiming he had entered the intersection first. I first saw him only when he was darting in front of me, even though I had looked to the left more than once.
The reason is that my view of him was blocked by the roundabout itself. It has overgrown vegetation, large boulders, a mountain lion statue, and two evergreen trees whose branches reach the ground.

SANTA FE — The New Mexico State Police (NMSP) has teamed up with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) and the New Mexico Trucking Association (NMTA) to make drivers aware of required lane travel for tractor-trailers.
Beginning Saturday, July 1, 2023, as per New Mexico Senate Bill 102, Section 1. 66-7-376 NMSA 1978, a truck tractor shall not be driven in the left lane of a roadway except under provisions as outlined by the bill.
Failure to obey could result in a penalty assessment of $250 for the first and second offenses and $500 for the third offense.
