Letter to the Editor: Herbicide Complaints
By CHET MANLEYAll those criticizing County Works for their use of herbicides and suggesting that we simply use hot water or Dawn dish soap to rid our county of unwanted weeds – you sound like whackjobs and should seriously consider moving into an uninhabited area or commune with others that share your same thought process.
Your old folk remedies, while funny to read, either don’t work or require more work than you mention or is economically possible. An example: pouring boiling water on weeds also requires manually cutting off the top growth of the plant before you dowse Read More
Letter to the Editor: Filming at 155 Monte Rey South
By ROBERT REEDYI agree with the complaints by Ellen Walton, especially the many vehicles parked along Monte Rey South making it hard to drive though that area. That part of the road is now effectively a one-lane road but usually has no active traffic control. I drive through that area very slowly and carefully to avoid other vehicles and members of the filming crew who are often in or crossing the road.
My wife and I wish to add two specific complaints. First, early on the very morning they started filming (Monday, 3/31, before 7 a.m.), one of their vehicles knocked over our Read More
Letter to the Editor: Nice Way to Prove Your Bias! … You Hacks!
By DEBRA STEINMANWe asked where the press was. And we the people were told, you were invited along with the Los Alamos Monitor, Santa Fe Reporter … among others. And that YOU just didn’t show.
NICE way to prove YOUR BIAS! So much for ‘impartial’ journalism YOU HACKS! Read More
Letter to the Editor: Request Herbicides Not Be Sprayed
By SHARON SCARLETT
Los Alamos
Hello Nancy, (Public Works Department)
My husband and I are chemically sensitive and request, as in the past, that herbicides not be sprayed in our area. You should make an announcement that residents can request that herbicides not be sprayed near their homes. In addition, you should be putting out signs in advance of any spraying, so that people, their children and pets can avoid the area.
How will water used for cleanup of equipment be disposed? Will applicators be protected?
How do you reconcile the use of bromacil (Hyvar) with DuPont’s instructions Read More

Letter to the Editor: Thank You Los Alamos for a Great Visit!
Lynne DzubaI had the opportunity to visit your lovely city in early march and I must express my appreciation. A beautiful city, with many great activities and adventures well within in driving range.
I especially enjoyed the Aquatic Center, WOW what a great swim venue! I loved the ability to lapswim most anytime … and very reasonable … Loved It!
We made a trip to Bandelier National Monument and that was a great day, so sad the destruction from the fires and floods are so evident. We Lunched at Pajarito Brewpub & Grill and it was Wonderful. We shopped right Read More
Yang: If I Were To Do A Study Or Two
If I Were To Do A Study Or TwoThe publicity and controversy accompanying “Battle Hymn of a Tiger Mother” at least spurred a special issue on Asian parenting by AAPA, Asian American Psychological Association: Asian American Journal of Psychology, Volume 4, No. 1, March, 2013. Perhaps the “The Triple Package” will compel some academics to conduct more rigorous research to address a few of the issues laid out in the book. So, I have been thinking about what I would have pursued if I were to have sufficiently generous funding.
My research preference has always leaned toward “exploring” Read More
