I believe that the best part of cooking is allowing your creativity to take charge in the kitchen and experiment with new flavors, textures, and pairing of ingredients. As a kid, I used to play a game with my mother when we went out to eat and tried a new dish. We would try to name the main ingredients of the dish and try to replicate it at home if we liked it. This game, I believe, is the main reason my palate is so well trained. I can figure out the ingredients and procedure for most dishes to the faintest Read More
Catch Of The Week: Gram Scam!

For the Los Alamos Daily Post
So the other day I got an Instagram notification and it was not the usual “your cat pic has gotten 3 likes” it was “random account would like to supervise your account”. What??
Curious, I looked at the notification to check it out, but it had already been rescinded as there was no request to be found. Still, this is a creepy new Instagram scam to watch out for.
What are Instagram supervision tools? According to the Instagram site:
Supervision is a set of tools and insights that parents and guardians can use to help support their teens (ages 13-17) Read More

Barbara Mohon is my new hero.
This Santa Fe lady, a retired dental hygienist, took on the junk callers who pestered her daily and won in court.
She began with all the things we’re supposed to do – registering on the do-not-call (DNC) list, blocking them on her cell phone, and pressing the opt-out on pre-recorded phone messages – to no avail. Finally, she bought the fake health insurance just to identify the source of the calls and last year sued four men in federal court.
Mohon argued that the four violated the New Mexico Unfair Practices Read More
Fr. Glenn: ‘I Want To Be In That Number…’
When you’re around Catholics this week, you may hear them speaking about All Saints Day, an annual November 1 day of remembrance (not worship) of all the faithful who are the “proven friends” of God and have inherited eternal life with Him.
Even the non-believer should be able to at least acknowledge the good of this day and the persons it honors, for the saints are men and women who have followed the great commandments to the best of their knowledge and ability—sought to practice and advance goodness, kindness and righteousness in their lives. After all, we honor sports stars, Read More
Tales Of Our Times: Defuse The Conflict Of Interest In Party Governance Of Voting
Tales of our Times

Los Alamos
My offhand polls of some dozen friends, family, and townsfolk echo the national polls. Millions of voters agree with the lists of complaints that dominate today’s political scene. Millions of voters agree that talk between the parties is useless—the parties each have their own codes, they never listen, and they have no common interests.
Yet, the No. 1 interest of either party is its own survival, that is, how many votes it can pull in elections. This statement can be seen as either a necessary fact or a useful insult. It is both.
Both parties often call Read More

Why Are Car Insurance Rates Going Up?
There are many reasons for the current auto insurance rate increases across the market. Here are some of the notable ones.
Severe Accidents
There was a rise in the severity of automobile accidents between 2020-2022. In fact, fatal car crashes were up 15% in 2022 as compared to 2020.
Increased Vehicle Value
Another contributor affecting the auto insurance market: the value of most vehicles — both new and used — increased while supply decreased. As of September 2022, used car and truck prices Read More
