Gruninger: Betty Ehart Kitchen Renovations Completed … Grand Re-Opening Monday Oct. 30
By JACCI GRUNINGER
Executive Director
LARSO
Did you know that for the last nine months the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) chefs have been making more than 175 lunches a day out of our White Rock Senior Activity Center kitchen? The rest are served to members and visitors in the White Rock Cafeteria or were part of a grab-n-go program while our Betty Ehart Kitchen has been under renovation.
We are excited to announce today that our renovations are now complete, and our Betty Ehart Chef,
Coupland: Next Steps For The School Calendar
By LAUREN COUPLAND
Candidate
Los Alamos School Board
On the agenda for Thursday’s School Board meeting, item 8.3 is entitled “Procedures for Reviewing School Calendar”. In the spring, the calendar items generated large public engagement, and calendar preparations for the 24-25 school year have been highly anticipated.
As a member of the calendar committee and a school board candidate, I’d like to provide some extra context to the school calendar discussions. The LAPS calendar committee met weekly in February and March 2023 to discuss the impacts of the developing legislation, and how Read More
McCumber: Don’t Gamble—Vote FOR the School Bond!
By JENNY MCCUMBER
Executive Director
Los Alamos Public Schools Foundation
Don’t gamble and take for granted your friends, neighbors and others in Los Alamos will go vote to pass the school bond. Please take the time now through Nov. 7 to vote FOR the bond so our community can continue to improve our school facilities.
I’m not much of a gambler but friends recently gave us a couple of powerball tickets. We enjoyed sitting around at dinner and talking about how we would spend the money. Unsurprisingly, our luck was abysmal and none of us won but it was fun to dream for a moment. When I was in a store a couple Read More
Shlachter: Response To ‘Peaceful Protest’
By Rabbi Jack Shlachter
Los Alamos Jewish Center
If those protesting along Trinity Drive (link) really do want a ceasefire in Gaza, they should advocate on behalf of the people living in Gaza to get rid of the Hamas terrorists who rule over them, and they should advocate for the return of all the hostages.
Hamas terrorists massacred over 1,400 people – including babies in their cribs, young people at a dance party, and Holocaust survivors – and kidnapped over 200 others.
Israel has every right to defend itself and ensure that such barbaric acts do not happen again. Were it not for the Hamas atrocities Read More

New Mexico is having an election in a couple of weeks. Now is a good time to get started figuring out whom and what you will be voting on.
More precisely, we are having lots of separate elections, all at the same time and on the same ballot, coordinated by your county clerk. The official Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 7. You can check with your county clerk for locations and early voting information.
What’s happening is a consolidation of all the little nonpartisan elections that used to be held separately.

Fr. Glenn: The Struggle
It doesn’t take a long look at the news to find examples of failures—failures of marriage, failures of remaining within legality in general, failures of sobriety, and just out and out failures of being good persons. Some would tell me: “Well, if people ‘walked the line’ in everything all of the time, you priests and ministers would be out of a large part of your jobs.” Trust me; we would not mind a bit!
But, alas … such isn’t the case, and doesn’t look like it ever will be. Ever those darned old bad habits, temptations, irascibilities, selfishnesses, etc., are always goading us to Read More
