Cinema Cindy Reviews: Killers Of The Flower Moon

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB
Los Alamos

“Killers of the Flower Moon”, Martin Scorsese’s latest film, is now showing at SALA. This much anticipated movie version of David Grann’s 2017 book truly is gripping, and it features many familiar actors. It will no doubt be discussed until the awards ceremonies, early next year.

The film deftly handles a horrifying chapter of American history, one which took place in Osage County, Oklahoma, a century ago. Unlike the book, the movie dives right into the action. An Osage woman is mourned. An American soldier returns from war in Europe and lands on his uncle’s doorstep. Read More

According to one news source (NBCNews.com), updated at 8:41 p.m. MST, Oct. 19, 2023, since the surprise attack on Israel by Hamas on Thursday, Oct. 7, “More than 3,700 people have been killed and more than 13,000 have been injured in Gaza. In Israel, 1,400 people have been killed and 3,500 have been wounded.”

Henderson: Asking For Your Vote – UNM-LA Advisory Board

By KRISTIN HENDERSON
Candidate

UNM-LA Advisory Board

UNM-LA is one of the most important institutions in our town, and we are incredibly fortunate to have it here.

The role of the UNM-LA Advisory Board is to provide input to the UNM Board of Regents on the priorities of Los Alamos. The unofficial role is to also serve as a sounding board to the UNM-LA Chancellor.

I am running for a seat on the Advisory Board because I would like to advocate for the values and priorities of Los Alamos to the Board of Regents, and be a part of the sounding board for the Chancellor. I believe I have a good sense of the advantages Read More

Meadows: Three Ingredients To Avoid

By JENNIFER MEADOWS

Most of my time grocery shopping is spent along the perimeter, because that is where fresh food is located in most stores. When venturing down aisles for packaged food, there are a few things to keep in mind.

The health claims on the outside of boxes that line grocery store shelves were put there by food company marketing departments. Their goal is for people to buy their products, nothing else. Just like a beautiful label doesn’t determine the quality of red wine, choosing a salad dressing because of a health claim on the label is Read More

Weekly Fishing Report: Oct. 20, 2023

By GEORGE MORSE

Los Alamos Daily Post

The fishing for kokanee salmon during the early part of the snagging season, which opened Oct. 1, has been slow. This is not unusual and the fishing should pick up later this season. One option while the snagging is slow is to fish for trout using conventional angling methods near where the salmon are running. One of the best baits during this time is fresh salmon eggs called roe. If you do get lucky enough to snag a female salmon, clean them immediately. The roe should be in two long sacks (skeins) along the backbone. Try to keep the sacks intact Read More

Ozment: More Support For The School Bond

By CAT OZMENT
Los Alamos

In a town where things can get politically contentious, I’ve been delighted to see letters to the editor showing a broad consensus that we as a community support the school bond up for consideration in the ongoing election. People whose values often diverge on other issues agree that a vote for this bond is a vote for our kids, a vote for educators, and a vote for our community. I’m proud to add my voice to the chorus: vote YES for the school bond.

In short: this bond will not change our current tax rate, and it will provide matching funds for urgently needed capital improvements. Read More
