Warren: Keep Our Canyons Wild … Proposed County Trail Projects Need Revision

By BRUCE WARREN
Los Alamos

Los Alamos residents are so lucky.

With a few minutes walk or ride from anywhere in town we can be in a natural environment that most people have to drive hundreds or thousands of miles to experience. It is important that we maintain these wild areas. The County is in the planning process for five trail projects, four of which are geared toward mountain bike riders.

You can view these projects here. My recent letter in the Post addressed issues with the way the County handles such proposals. I have serious concerns about the impact of these proposals on our canyons. If you do Read More

The last of the Niyamas is Ishvarapranidhana or surrender to something higher than yourself. The Yogic texts define Ishvarapranidhana as surrendering to God. However, as with all things, we can take a more modern or non-theistic view of this Niyama and define it as surrendering to something bigger than ourselves. That something could be nature, the universe or whatever else you find that is bigger than you.

Home Country: Isn’t It Hard To Catch Fish Without Water?

Home Country
By SLIM RANDLES

It was just one of those things. It didn’t really mean Marvin Pincus had lost his mind.

Consider this yourself for a minute. Marvin had opened the mail that morning and in it was the Fenwick glass fly rod he’d ordered. Oh, it was used, of course. But there’s a feel to a Fenwick that only a man dedicated to a life of using dry flies can appreciate.

Fr. Glenn: Confronting Imperfection

By Fr. Glen Jones:

Saw a cute joke in a magazine the other day: “A celebrity is someone who works hard their entire life to become famous and then wears dark glasses to avoid being recognized.”

We do tend to love notoriety and attention … or at least think we do. But often becomes too much, and the notables again seek refuge in blissful anonymity. Many of us older folks remember the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana—she glowing and admired by millions. And yet, after many ups and downs in her life, Diana ended up dying while fleeing the spotlight. And as any celebrity finds all too soon, one thing people Read More
