Los Alamos Chamber Of Commerce Announces Nominations Now Open For 2026 Chamber Awards

CHAMBER News:

The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce has announced that Chamber Members may now nominate their own organizations and other Member organizations for the annual Chamber Awards.

The process is starting earlier this year. Only Chamber Members are eligible to vote and eligible to be nominated. If you are a Member and did not receive the voting link in the email message that went out today, please contact the chamber via email at sandy@losalamos.org, and the link will be sent to you.

The past year has been one of challenges and uncertainty due mostly to changes in the federal government. The County experienced higher costs, delays, and an as-yet unfulfilled FEMA funding commitment. Changes at our largest employer resulted in a significant decrease in gross receipts taxes. NMDOT: ‘Name A Snowplow’ Voting Open Through Jan.14

SANTA FE — Voting is live for the snowplow naming contest and will continue through noon Wednesday, Jan.14. 

The New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) launched the snowplow naming contest for the third straight year, and is again inviting New Mexicans to vote on their favorite names.

Sharon Salazar Hickey, vice-chair of the New Mexico State Game Commission, has resigned effective Dec. 31.

Salazar Hickey, of Santa Fe, has served on the commission since January 2020. She recently retired after working for decades at Los Alamos National Laboratory as a staff attorney, group leader and program manager.

NMSP: Burglary Probe In 2024 Ruidoso Fires Nets Arrest

RUIDOSO — During the 2024 Ruidoso fires, agents with the New Mexico State Police (NMSP) Crime Suppression Bureau (CSB) assisted NMSP uniform personnel with evacuations, roadblocks, and other assigned public safety missions in the affected area.

SANTA FE — The Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office reopened Tuesday after closing Monday because of an area-wide power outage.

Elke Ellen Winkler passed away on Christmas Day, December 25, 2025, at the age of 82. She will be remembered for her warm, resilient, and curious spirit and her love of animals and the outdoors.

She is survived by her husband of over 52 years, Karl-Heinz, with whom she shared a beautiful and full life. Together, they raised three children, Philipp, Malte, and Julie.
