State Higher Education Department Awards Student Debt Relief To 400+ Health Professionals Working In New Mexico

SANTA FE — The New Mexico Higher Education Department (HED) is awarding student debt relief payments to more than 400 health professionals through the Health Professional Loan Repayment Program.

A total of 1,213 health care professionals in New Mexico are currently receiving student debt relief through the program, including 401 new awardees this year.

The debt relief, totaling $24.4 million, is granted to these awardees on the condition that they conduct their work in high-need communities across the state for a minimum of three years.

Many Los Alamos County community members are facing growing uncertainty due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, rising food costs, and other economic challenges. Atomic City Transit Concludes Saturday Service Pilot Program, Seeks Feedback

Atomic City Transit (ACT) concluded its Saturday service pilot program with ACT MyRide on October 25, 2025. The County expresses thanks to all the riders who made the program a success by utilizing the service, and are grateful to customers who provided insight by taking the survey and sharing about their transit experience.

For 13 weeks, beginning Aug. 2, 2025, ACT was able to provide transportation service for Los Alamos and White Rock on Saturdays with its MyRide on-demand program, when traditional bus service is not provided.

The Los Alamos County Public Works Department, in partnership with the Transportation Board, invites community members to attend a second public meeting to discuss the New Mexico Highway 4 and Multi-Use Trail Improvement Project and the Piñon School Trail Project.

These projects involve the design and construction of new and reconstructed multi-use trails along the south side of NM 4, between Sherwood Boulevard and La Vista Drive, within Piñon Park in White Rock. SANTA FE — The Santa Fe National Forest is planning prescribed fire operations on Holiday Mesa in the Jemez Ranger District Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025, pending all required approvals. The 878-acre Holiday North prescribed fire is a broadcast burn meaning fire is applied to the landscape within a defined boundary. $15,000 Grants Available To Take School Kids On State Park Field Trips

NMED: Toxic Algae Detected In Eagle Nest Lake

COLFAX COUNTY — The New Mexico Environment Department is warning visitors to avoid water contact at Eagle Nest Lake after samples confirmed the presence of harmful algae and toxins.

Harmful algae blooms, or HABs, occur when certain algae grow excessively in water, posing potential health risks to people and animals. HABs can appear blue, bright green, brown or red and may resemble scum or floating grass clippings on the water’s surface. These blooms can produce toxins that are harmful to humans and animals.
