New Mexico Pro Hockey Club Announces Three Finalists For ‘Name The Team’ Contest
RIO RANCHO — Following a strong response from the community, the New Mexico Pro Hockey Club (NMPHC) has announced the three finalists for its official team name.
The “Name the Team” contest generated nearly 2,000 submissions from fans across the state and beyond.
The following names have been selected as finalists:
- Cutthroats — A nod to the native Rio Grande cutthroat trout, New Mexico’s state fish, known for its aggressive nature and striking colors.
- Goatheads — Inspired by the goathead thorn – a relentless desert weed that’s nearly impossible to kill – and the wild Ibex

Atomic City Glass LLC, co-owners Raymond Martinez, left, and Michael Harvey, hold one of the glass-blowing torches they use to create the glass art they feature in their business, which they opened in April at 2102 Trinity Drive. ALBUQUERQUE — A Shiprock woman was sentenced to 33 months in prison for driving under the influence and causing a multi-passenger collision in 2023.
There is no parole in the federal system.
According to court documents, on April 10, 2023, Jazmyne Deschinny, 22, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation, drove a vehicle with eight occupants, including five children, while under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Read More
