The Hive held its first Mini-Sumo robot competition Saturday, July 13. The competition was fierce, but the champ ended up being "El Matador" created and programmed by Allan Saenz and Nathan Burnside.

New, Stricter Pajarito Road Access Rules Go Into Effect Aug. 12
- No more “vouching” for family members
Los Alamos National Laboratory, at the direction of the National Nuclear Security Administration’s Los Alamos Field Office, will restrict access on Pajarito Road to only Laboratory badge holders effective Monday, Aug. 12.
This means that Laboratory personnel and subcontractors will no longer be able to “vouch” for non-Laboratory personnel such as family members.

Missoula Children’s Theatre Casting Call: ‘The Tortoise Versus The Hare’

Missoula Children’s Theatre is holding a casting call at 9:30 a.m. Monday, July 22 at Crossroads Bible Church for The Tortoise Versus The Hare.
More than 50 roles will be cast for students entering first through twelfth grades. A parent/guardian must be with each child when registering in order to sign the permission form.

Motorist Crashes Through Fence On Diamond Drive
A car broke through a fence near the cliff’s edge on Diamond Drive just south of the Pueblo Complex this morning. Witnesses report that the driver ‘blacked out’ and drifted from the south bound lane, crossing north bound, jumping a sidewalk and crashing through the canyon fence. JEMEZ SPRINGS – The Thompson Ridge Burned Area Emergency Response (BAER) team has received final approval for its emergency stabilization request and recommendations involving burned areas affected by the Thompson Ridge Fire.
“Now that the plan is approved, we can move forward with the treatments suggested by the assessment team,” said John Barksdale, Thompson Ridge BAER implementation team leader. “Once we are staffed with specialists to oversee projects, we will begin implementing those treatments.”

Water Main Break Reported in White Rock
DPU News:
Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities report that a 6-inch water main broke Monday at the corner of Rover Boulevard and Azure Street in White Rock.
Reported at 3:15 p.m., DPU’s Gas, Water and Sewer crew responded.
Repairs were completed by 7:30 p.m., Monday and no customers were without water. Read More

In 1864, President Abraham Lincoln presented silver-headed ebony canes to the Governors of the 19 New Mexico Pueblos to recognize their authority, sovereignty, and relationship with the Federal government. Similar canes had been presented by the government of Spain in 1620 and that of Mexico in 1821.

The White Rock Little League Boys 9/10 All-Stars have won the District One Championship!
They played Los Alamos in a battle for the championship and beat them 14-6. The team now advances to the state tournament in Roswell.
Their first game will be Saturday, July 20.
