Canyon & Rover Park Tennis Courts Undergo Resurfacing Beginning Tuesday Morning

Tennis players using Canyon and Rover Parks are being asked to seek alternate courts for play while County contractors resurface these two courts over the next three weeks.
Work will get underway Tuesday morning at Canyon Court. Resurfacing begins at Rover Park’s tennis court next week.

Los Alamos Triathlon Celebrates ‘Ruby’ Year Aug. 16

The Los Alamos Triathlon is celebrating its “ruby” 40th year as the oldest, continuously running triathlon in the United States with a challenging sprint triathlon starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16 in Los Alamos.
In addition, the 21st annual Kids Triathlon is 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 17 for kids between three and 10 years of age.
In honor of the Triathlon’s 40th anniversary, all triathletes are encouraged to wear red.

Triatomics presented its third free Splash ‘n Dash event July 23. To see the results, click HERE.
The next Splash ‘n Dash event is Aug. 26 at the Larry Walkup Aquatic Center on Canyon Road.
Swimmers, runners, beginning multi-sports athletes, seasoned triathletes or anyone else interested may participate in either:
- 400 yard swim, followed by a 5K run along Canyon Drive; or
- 200 yard swim, followed by a 3K run along Canyon Drive.
Registration for all distances begins at 6:20 p.m. and closes at 6:55 p.m., with the first swimmer sent off at 7 p.m. sharp!

The seventh annual NMpreps.com’s Elite Combine powered by Defined Fitness is 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 26, and will showcase more than 200 of New Mexico’s best high school athletes.
The event is at the Cleveland High School Football Stadium, 4800 Laban Road, NE in Rio Rancho. Admission is free.
Each high school athlete will be tested in five core events:
- Bench Press;
- 40-Time;
- Vertical Jump;
- Standing Broad Jump; and

Sweat was an issue in the minds of more than 40 youngsters-to-oldsters as monsoonal humidity added to the challenge of completing one and three mile pace race courses on North Mesa Tuesday evening.
Seeking to minimize the difference between their predictions and actual running and walking times, most participants were surprised that they moved much faster than predicted.
