This week we are opening Non-Stop and Dallas Buyers Club. Mr. Peabody and 300: Rise of an Empire will hold for another week. Son of God and Lego end Thursday.

Dallas Buyers Club is opening here very late I know, but Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto won Oscars for Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor respectively. I think that alone plus its 94 percent rating make it worth a look on the big screen.

SANTA FEOne of the most far-reaching exhibits of New Mexico animal wood carvings, Wooden Menagerie: Made in New Mexico, debuts at the Museum of International Folk Art April 6, with 107 artworks made by such masters as Felipe Archuleta, Patrociñio Barela and José Dolores López. The exhibition runs through Feb. 15, 2015.

In general,  I thought the 86th Academy Awards went well. I think everyone who won a golden statue deserved it although I was disappointed that American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street and August:Osage County went home empty handed.

“Philomena” was honored by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences with nominations for Best Picture of 2013, Actress in a Leading Role, Original Score and Adapted Screenplay and I heartily agree with these nominations.

It is a fine film, based on a true story. Judy Dench is wonderful in the title role.
