New York City Jazz Will Heat Up Fuller Lodge

Two NYC jazz musicians will perform on piano and trumpet at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 2 at Fuller Lodge.

Roy Dunlap (piano) and Marcus Parsley (trumpet) are world-class musicians and Saturday’s concert will be a real treat for jazz lovers.

Art Opening Marks Proud Moment for Pinon Students

The bubbly flowed as young artists soaked in the excitement of their first art opening Friday evening at Village Arts at 216 DP Road. Hors d’oeuvre trays filled with grapes, crackers and cheese coupled with glasses of sparkling cider served by owner Ken Nebel enhanced the magical atmosphere for Pinon Elementary School students who mingled among community members, sharing the inspirations for their work. The LA Piecemakers group is holding its first daytime meeting at noon Tuesday, Feb. 26.

The group will meet at Graves Hall at the United Church of Los Alamos on Rose Street. Fiber artist Carol Martin-Davis from El Rito will be the featured speaker.

The Jim Sagel Memorial Lecture Series at UNM-Los Alamos  will present award-winning poet David Mill at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4 in the Building 2 Lecture Hall at UNM-LA.

Mills will perform an excerpt from his show, “Dreamweaver: The Works of Langston Hughes.” The reading is free and open to the public.

Community Winds Concert to Light Up the Stage Saturday

Los Alamos Community Winds will celebrate light, hope and renewal in their upcoming concert, “Finlandia! and Other Brilliant Lights.”

The concert will take place at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23 at Crossroads Bible Church. The concert is a benefit for the New Mexico Alzheimer’s Association.

As always, Winds concerts are free of charge. A suggested donation of $10 will be appreciated and will benefit the work of the NM Alzheimer’s Association.

Students from Pinon Elementary School have worked together in a GATE/Art collaboration to create a show called, “Every Picture Tells a Story.”

The 2013 Los Alamos Photographers’ Show (LAPS) opens Monday, March 4. LAPS is an annual event sponsored by the Los Alamos Photography Club and exhibited in the Mesa Public Library Gallery.
