Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB

“X-Men: Days of Future Past” may fall into the same genre of superhero movies as “Spiderman 2”, which played last week here in town, but that is where any similarity between the two films ends.

Admittedly, this is an entertaining genre but my qualifications critiquing it are few. Like many people, I don’t have the backstory on these characters (especially Mystique, Beast, Quicksilver, Wolverine, even Professor X and Magneto) beyond what the film itself tells us.

EVERYONE is welcome to come help rock the house of God. We’ll have delicious food, great music and profound words of hope and encouragement.

Capturing Specialness In Bumper Sticker Slogans … Beware
By ELENA YANG

Let’s have a little fun before the Memorial Day long weekend.

States, cities, towns, little towns … all try to win money from tourism. These days they commission, with taxpayers’ money of course, studies to find their “unique” feature for “branding.”  But hey, when you plan a vacation, do you ever pick a place based on a slogan, catchy or not?

New York Times’ Gail Collins offers some thoughts about tourism, slogans and their unintended consequences in her May 15 column. And the readers provided more fodder.  Read More

Cinema Cindy Reviews ‘Million Dollar Arm’

By CYNTHIA BIDDLECOMB

“Million Dollar Arm,” as a Disney production, was almost guaranteed to have a happy ending. But little did I expect it to be touching! This is a sports film that non-fans can enjoy.

The cross-cultural story and scenes in India are captivating. Having lived among a subset of the Indian culture, I giggled through much of this part of the film.

In fact, we get a quick tour in India itself, as the protagonist, an independent sports agent, seeks new talent for the next Read More
