Yang: Something Creative

Something Creative
By ELENA YANG

The MacArthur Foundation recently announced its 2013 Fellows (link below), so I have “creativity” on my brain. Again. Around the time of the announcement, the “Room for Debate” Op-Ed in the New York Times (link below) had several panelists pen their opinions on “Is Creativity Endangered?” Nothing terribly new, and there were no earth-shatteringly creative perspectives in these op-ed pieces, but a little synthesis of my favorite points, combining some other perspectives, can at least provide some food for thought.

When we mention “creative people,” we tend Read More

Exciting New Ingredients Shown to Stimulate Skin Cell Growth

Skincare Column

Ingredients in Advanced Skin Care Products

One of the most exciting ingredients recently introduced into advanced clinical skin care products for home use is epidermal growth factor, or EGF.

This substance has been shown to stimulate the growth of new skin cells, making products containing EGF an excellent addition to an anti-aging home care regimen. The daily use of EGF encourages aging skin to function more like young skin by stimulating increased cell turnover to thicken and strengthen the skin and speed healing when injury does occur.  Read More

The second team QB was injured and unavailable so the Demons started the third team QB, a freshman, in the game against the Los Alamos High School Hilltoppers.

Why Do I Need Title Insurance?
By KARL HJELVIK

There is a common question asked of almost every mortgage lender, whether it be a purchase or a refinance. That question is; “why do I need Title Insurance?” To answer that question you first need to understand what title insurance is. Title insurance is an insurance policy or contract issued by a title company to protect the owner as well as the lender against a loss that may arise by reason of a defect in the ownership interest in real property.

In addition, the title insurance company agrees to defend you or the lender in court if there is

How the Hen House Turns

A Little More About Peacocks

Just a moment to honor one tough, honorable, bird. He came to visit every day for a while, sometimes slept on top of the Hen House or high up in the Ponderosas that inhabit our back yard.

He appeared in the morning when Bobbie goose heard the water running and started honking, “Let me out of here.” Then he waited on the Hen House roof or the chicken pen fence until I filled water pans and set out lay pellets for my ten birds. He sometimes pecked a bit at the food and drink I left for him on the roof, Read More

Ready to Play?

Folks, in the past couple of months I have seen three clarinets, at least one flute, and a trumpet purchased on EBay and/or Craig’s List advertised as “ready to play.” I’ve seen these instruments because they were not, in fact, ready to play and they were brought to me to make them playable. I just had another come in this week.

The clarinets, late 60s early 70s, came with no bottom tenon cork to attach the bell (because it can be played without a bell), badly done Read More

Education Funding 101: It’s Time to Address Education Funding

It’s Time to Address Education Funding
By Save Our Schools Los Alamos

This school year, Los Alamos Public Schools received $33M from State ($25M) and Federal ($8M) governments but is operating at a budget of $36M. The gap between revenue and expense ($3M) was paid primarily from the Los Alamos Public Schools lease fund.

Even though Los Alamos Public Schools spent about $3M over the State and Federal allotments, some Los Alamos families have been negatively impacted by a shortage of school funds.  Ask the parents of second graders at Mountain, Barranca and Aspen Elementary Schools Read More

Reduce Joint Inflammation with Good Nutrition
