ALBUQUERQUE – Registration is underway for the 2013 Quality New Mexico Learning Summit and New Mexico Performance Excellence Awards Ceremony scheduled for April 22-23 at the Hyatt Regency Albuquerque.

Crowd Gathers for Los Alamos Family Council Sock Hop

Poodle skirts were flying as community members took to the dance floor for the Los Alamos Family Council’s Sock Hop fundraiser held last weekend. Local merchants provided door prizes and the snack bar provided root beer float prizes for winners of the bubblegum blowing, dance and hula hoop contests. Marlane Hamilton (Vice President) and Diane Daughton (President) are at the front table selling tickets. Popcorn on the table is served in an antique record that was ruffled by baking it in an oven. Patrick Mockler-Wood, co-owner of the Pajarito Brewpub & Grill in Los Alamos and Emily Blumenthal celebrate the birth of their daughter Emma Aspen Mockler-Wood.

Emma Aspen was born March 20 at the Northern New Mexico Midwifery Center in Taos.

She weighs 7 lbs. 6 ozs. and is 19.5 inches long.

Learn About YMCA Express Through Orientations

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA is offering free orientations to its new Y Express facility beginning at noon today.

One of the Y’s wellness coaches will introduce community members to the Functional Training room at the Y Express, discuss and demonstrate proper use of the functional training and cardio room machines and give attendees an opportunity to try out the equipment.

Anyone unable to attend a scheduled orientation may schedule an individual orientation.

County Pavement Manager Tom Roach Retires

Los Alamos County Pavement Manager Tom Roach in the Pajarito Cliffs office of Transportation Manager Nancy Talley on his final day of work Thursday. Roach retired after 14 years of service to Los Alamos County. ‘I started here without fanfare and I want to leave here without fanfare,’  Roach told the Los Alamos Daily Post.
