Calling Creative Young Artists for Dog Jog Logo Contest

Tails are wagging all over Los Alamos in anticipation of the 2013 Los Alamos Dog Jog, to be held on the morning of Saturday, April 27. 

The Dog Jog is a fundraiser for the Friends of the Shelter, who provide medical services and needed items for animals housed at the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter.

The Dog Jog Committee is calling on all creative young artists to put your imaginations and love of dogs to work by submitting a drawing for the 2013 Dog Jog Logo Contest!

The Logo Contest is open to youngsters in grades 3 through 6 whose families live or work in Los Alamos County.

Dance Classes Starting at Family YMCA

FAMILY YMCA News:

The Family YMCA offers a several dance classes for a variety of ages and skill levels.

Community members are welcome to stop by and “try-out” any class once at no charge.

Starting Feb. 2, the Beginners Flamenco dance class will be working with a Traditional Flamenco guitarist.

It is a great time to join the class.

There is a new and clever credit card scam. This scam is very clever so be very careful out there as one could easily fall for this … beware of people bearing gifts.

 Someone it happened to says it works like this:

Wednesday a week ago, I had a phone call from someone who said that he was from some outfit called: “Express Couriers” asking if I was going to be home because there was a package for me, and the caller said that the delivery would arrive at my home in roughly an hour.

It’s a cold winter night in Los Alamos, but at the Family YMCA, our very own roller derby team is generating plenty of heat as they spin around the gym at top speed.

The Los Alamos Derby Dames is a flat track roller derby league founded in April 2011. The league currently has one team, the M’Atom Bombs.

With some help from the 2009 movie “Whip It” roller derby, which is dominated by all-female amateur teams, has grown in popularity in recent years.
