‘Breakfast With Santa’ Draws Kids Big And Small

The annual Kiwanis Breakfast with Santa supported this year by Del Norte Credit Union helps Northern New Mexico families in need.

The breakfast and photo with Santa were free, but attendees were asked to bring non-perishable food and/or make a monetary donation.

Two truckloads of donated food collected at the event was given to LA Cares for distribution needy families. The monetary donations collected at the breakfast totalled $1,463, according to Kiwanis Treasurer Read More

‘Star Vigilante’ Books Signed Saturday

Science-fiction author T. Jackson King signed his books Saturday at Smith’s Food and Drug Center, 31 Sherwood Blvd., in White Rock.

The Los Alamos author introduced his new novel “Star Vigilante,” a science fiction action-adventure that features an interstellar vigilante hired to save a human colony world from an alien strip mining operation.

Pontsettia Pick Up Location Changed!

The location has changed for the poinsettia pick-up from the student Europe 2013 fundraiser. Poinsettias can be picked up at First Baptist Church until noon today, Dec. 1, instead of Crossroads Bible Church. Pet of the Week: Mo the Cat

Mo is a very soft 3-year-old female cat surrendered for adoption with her feline friend Ralphie.

Neither cat cares for dogs or boisterous children. Mo and Ralphie are now circulating in the cat room and enjoy the attention of volunteers.

The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, 505-662-8179, has a large selection of on-site pets available for adoption.

Additional pets are living off-campus in foster homes until someone adopts them.

Los Alamos author T. Jackson King has a new novel out with the recent publication of “Star Vigilante,” hard science fiction action-adventure that features an interstellar vigilante hired to save a human colony world from an alien strip mining operation.

King will autograph his novel from 1-5 p.m. today, Saturday Dec. 1 at Smith’s Food and Drug Center, 31 Sherwood Blvd., in White Rock.

Meet Local Reptiles and Amphibians Sunday at PEEC

PEEC News:

Come to PEEC at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 to meet some local reptiles and amphibians you might find on the Pajarito Plateau.

Scott Bulgrin, president of the New Mexico Herpetological Society, will give a presentation on New Mexico Reptiles and Amphibians.

He will also have a few friends with him, including toads, turtles, lizards and snakes.

Bulgrin has lived in New Mexico for the last 13 years. He has extensive experience with herpetofauna and has conducted outreach and education for the Herpetological Society for many years.

Family YMCA Sponsoring Giving Tree

YMCA News:

The Family YMCA is sponsoring four families for the holidays and welcomes the community to participate by taking part in the Giving Tree.

Everyone is welcome to come to the Y, take a tag off the tree in the lobby, purchase a gift, wrap it and return it with the tag attached by Dec. 10.

Families have requested gift cards, grocery gift cards and some specific gifts.

The Y will give the wrapped gifts to the Adopt-A-Family program.
