The Los Alamos unit of the American Contract Bridge League held its annual sectional bridge tournament July 27-29 at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. There were 148 tables in play over the three day event, 19 tables better than 2011. Of the 154 participants, 117 came from out of town including 44 from Santa Fe, 37 from Albuquerque, 14 from Taos, 10 from Texas, six from Arizona, four from Colorado and two from California. Mountain Lion Expert Comes to PEEC
PEEC News:

Internationally recognized cougar expert Ken Logan of the Colorado Parks and Wildlife division will talk at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12 at PEEC about his years of research on these beautiful and elusive animals. The talk is free and open to the public.
The focus of Logan’s career has been on the science of the cougar, and on putting that scientific information into a format that will inform decision makers and citizens as they consider mountain lion management and conservation.
Logan was the lead researcher for a 10-year, $1.4 million study of mountain lions

The “Scale of Justice” sculpture created by Jemez Springs artist Troy Williams was installed today in front of the Justice Center at 2500 Trinity Dr.
The Arts in Public Places Board (APPB) and Los Alamos County plan to hold an official dedication of the sculpture at 3 p.m., Aug. 22.
This sculpture displays 12 jurors from all walks of life, based on actual community members. They are made of steel as is the scale on which they stand.

YMCA Gym Divider Helps to Double Space

The Family YMCA completed the installation of a gym divider curtain this month, which was partially funded by targeted donations from last year’s annual campaign for the improvement project.
