Power Outage Planned Thursday for Part of North Mesa

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities announced today that weather permitting, a brief power outage is planned for a portion of North Mesa.

The 10 to 20 minute outage is planned for 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 27. The area affected is east of the Hawk Drive/San Ildefonso Road intersection, not including the Del Norte and Del Sol areas.

Electric line crews will reconfigure the three phase power in these North Mesa neighborhoods to optimize electric loads and reduce possibility for future power outages in the area.

Police Chief Shares Holiday Greetings

Los Alamos Police Chief Wayne Torpy is home from the hospital and told the Los Alamos Daily Post that he is mending well.

“I want to thank everyone and express my deep appreciation for all of the cards and notes and letters of support that I have received during my stay at the hospital,” Torpy said. “I just want to let everyone know that I am home now and doing well and I want to wish everyone in the community happy holidays.”

Pet of the Week: Shyloh the Black Shepherd Mix

Shyloh is a 2-year-old black shepherd mix and a wonderful pet. He is friendly with adults, loves kids, cats and dogs.

The reason he came to the Los Alamos County Animal Shelter is that his family moved away without him.

Like many dogs, Shyloh will need some time and company to feel wanted in a new home. A tall, secure fence is recommended if he must be left alone in a yard.

He is amazing at finding creative ways to get to K9 companions and human friends. We have some great ideas about securing your fence. Just ask!

Shyloh is house broken and leash trained and a joy to take on walks.

County’s Insurance Carrier Settles Lawsuit

Los Alamos County’s insurance carrier, the New Mexico Self-Insurer’s Fund, has settled a lawsuit filed by a former Parks and Recreation Department employee.
 
Melody Cross, a senior office specialist with the Parks Department filed the lawsuits in First Judicial District Court against Los Alamos County, Parks Manager Richard McIntyre and Parks Department employee Randy Lucero.

Underground Power Failure Affects Portions of North Mesa

An underground power failure affected parts of North Mesa at approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials with the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities report that a single phase of three phase power failed on San Ildefonso Road between Hawk Drive and Broadview.

One-third of the customers east of Hawk Drive (not including the Del Norte and Del Sol neighborhoods) lost power.

Working through the night in frigid temperatures, DPU’s electric line crews initiated temporary repairs by back feeding electricity to restore power by 11:30 p.m. to the majority of the area.

DPU Restores Power to North Mesa

Field reports indicate that a power outage affecting North Mesa impacted 1/3rd of customers in and between the Del Norte neighborhoods eastward to the Tsikimu Village neighborhoods.

Power was uninterrupted to the remaining areas of North Mesa.
