Dec. 8 at 4:45 p.m. / A 71-year-old Los Alamos man reported that he was the victim of larceny in the 2000 block of 47th Street. The estimated loss is less than $250.

Pet of the Week: Mo is a very soft 3-year-old spayed female tabby/tortie surrendered for adoption with her friend Ralphie.
 
Neither cat cares for dogs or boisterous children. Mo and Ralphie are now circulating in the cat room and enjoying the attention of volunteers.

The Los Alamos Animal Shelter, 226 East Road, (505) 662-8179, has a great selection of on-site adoptable pets. Other pets are off-campus residing in foster homes.

Atomic City Transit Streamlines Little Forest Playschool Field Trips

Atomic City Transit makes it easy for preschool classes to take simple field trips around town.

The students of Little Forest Playschool are seasoned bus riders. During the summer they go on at least one field trip a week and have taken the bus to the pool, the library, Ashley Pond, the Farmer’s Market and other places in Los Alamos.

In late November the students arrived at school, walked to the bus stop on 38th Street and Villa and did their morning stretches while waiting for the number 6 to arrive.

White Rock resident Matt Williams has told the Los Alamos Daily Post that he has decided to run for a seat on the Los Alamos Board of Education.

“I think I am one of the more qualified people to take on this post. Others in the school community agree with that,” Williams said. “I have had lots of support and encouragement from staff, parents and district personnel. Background and history: As you may know, N.M. 502 between Central Avenue and Airport Road presents significant obstacles and hazards to traffic flow and pedestrians.

It operates at peak times with considerable congestion, particularly during the evening commute, when traffic is either crawling or stop-and-go.

The morning commute operates below the current speed limit due to congestion. Pedestrian service is inadequate, even though some points of obvious access lie along this segment.

County Reminds Motorists of Safety Considerations

Winter weather is here, and the County would like to remind residents of some important safety considerations for motorists to take in order to make their travel as safe as possible.

Motorists are encour­aged to equip their vehi­cles with chains and/or snow tires and carry a con­tainer of sand and a shovel in their vehicle. Barrels of sand for public use are placed at locations that historically become icy and slick during storms, including:

County Budget Tightening Puts Capital Projects on Hold

At the Dec. 11 County Council meeting, Council Chair Sharon Stover asked County Administrator Harry Burgess to explain why several capital expenditure items were removed from the tickler and agenda.

Burgess explained that capital improvement projects and other pending actions by Council that involve large expenditures of money were temporarily being put on hold.
