The rhetoric regarding the Charter ballot questions on initiative, referendum and recall is making the changes sound positively draconian!

Let’s look at what the most widely challenged changes actually do.

Presley Gao began taking piano lessons with Dr. Madeline Williamson on his 6th birthday in 2008.

Today at just 10 years of age, he is performing solo piano recitals more likely found in the repertory of concertizing pianists.

  • County Hosting 90 Percent Final Design Informational Meeting at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14 at Fuller Lodge

Los Alamos County Parks Manager Dick McIntyre and consultant, Sites Southwest LLC, will present plans for upcoming construction on the Ashley Pond Park renovation project.

The County is scheduled to issue the notice to proceed in February 2013. The project will be sent out for construction bids in late December and the bid is expected to be awarded by Council by late January.

Early Voting Ends 6 p.m. Saturday

ELECTION 2012 News:

This is just a reminder that all Early Voting ends at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3.

Voting locations include:

Los Alamos Community Building at 29th Street and Central Avenue;

White Rock Fire Station #3 on N.M. 4; and

Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office at Oppenheimer Drive and Central Avenue.

Nov. 6 General Election Day voting will be at three locations from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. including Los Alamos Community Building, White Rock Fire Station #3 and Trinity on the Hill Church-Kelly Hall.

Letter to the Editor: Charter Amendments Deserve Community’s Support

I support the amendments to the County’s Charter. The current initiative and referendum provisions are disjointed and confusing.

The lack of clarity has led to a number of illegal and/or illogical petition efforts that have frustrated everyone.

The Charter Review Committee consisting of John Hopkins, Larry Warner, Harry Ettinger, Morrie Pongratz, Ralph Phelps, Chris Chandler, David Izraelevitz, Richard Dunn and Kyle Wheeler brought a diversity of views and knowledge to the effort.

Take County’s Broadband Market Survey

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos County IT Department is doing a Market Survey asking for feedback on the Community Broadband Network project; a “last-mile” fiber network that will provide open and advanced broadband communications access to all Los Alamos County citizens, businesses and institutions.

As part of this survey, the County is interested in conducting market research to assess demand and interest in broadband services, as well as explore preferences regarding methods of financing the CBN project and willingness to pay for the various costs to install and operate the network.  Read More
