The Hive to Address Council Tuesday

We would like to invite the community to join us at the County Council meeting beginning at 7 p.m., Tuesday in the Community Building.

The Council has been presented with a petition for an immediate $36,000 grant to sustain operations of The Hive through February of next year and to request that the Council direct County staff to work with The Hive in developing an expanded grant application.

This short paper addresses the most efficient and direct way that the County can promote REAL and SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT in Los Alamos County.

County Wants Folks to ‘Take A Hike’

Los Alamos County is encouraging visitors to “take a hike” during national “Take a Hike Day” Nov. 17.

Take a Hike Day, which encourages Americans to get outdoors and move. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, less than half of all adults get enough physical activity to improve their health.

Los Alamos is not only considered the “healthiest County in the country,” (Bloomberg News) but it has more official hiking trails in the Southwest compared to most same-sized cities and counties.

In May 2012, the Los Alamos County Council directed staff to explore renovating and leasing existing space at Central Park Square, across from Fuller Lodge, for use as a new Teen Center.

Deacon Closed at 15th Monday, Nov. 12

Monday, Nov. 12, the Eastern Area 2 project contractor will be working to install a valley gutter across Deacon at 15th Street.  

Assuming the weather cooperates, the valley gutter will be excavated and concrete should be placed by the end of day Monday.

Once the concrete is finished off, the contractor will place a steel plate across the intersection and reopen the intersection.

The fresh concrete will need to cure for five days. Depending on the weather received over the weekend, the work may be delayed until Tuesday.

The Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office reports that Los Alamos County voters cast 10,684 ballots in the 2012 General Election, which came to a close Tuesday night. 
 
The majority of those votes were cast early or absentee with 3,528 cast on election day, Nov. 6.
 
Voters approved all four proposed Charter Amendments, which was a highly contested issue throughout the campaign season.
