FBI: Jury Convicts Navajo Man On Abuse Charges

ALBUQUERQUE A federal jury sitting in Albuquerque, returned a verdict today finding Brian Adrian Sloan guilty on aggravated child sexual abuse charges following a five-day trial.
 
The guilty verdict was announced by U.S. Attorney John C. Anderson and Special Agent in Charge James C. Langenberg of the FBI’s Albuquerque Division.
 
The FBI arrested Sloan, 33, an enrolled member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Newcomb, August 2016, on an indictment filed Aug. 23, 2016, alleging child sexual abuse offenses.

ALBUQUERQUE Attorney General Hector Balderas has announced the successful disbursement of more than $60,000 to New Mexico Legal Aid.
 
The funding is the result of unclaimed funds payed by a defendant in a recently concluded case, and will be redistributed by court order to help New Mexico Legal Aid support the legal needs of New Mexicans.
 
“Protecting the rights of vulnerable New Mexicans has always been a top priority for my office, and I am pleased the funding that we recovered will be used for that purpose,” Balderas said.

Colorado Woman Pleads Guilty In New Mexico To Federal Charges From Crime Spree Resulting In Death

ALBUQUERQUE – Trista Schlaefli, 33, of Colorado Springs, Colo., pled guilty Tuesday afternoon in federal court in Las Cruces to charges arising out of a Nov. 27, 2017 crime spree during which Schlaefli and her co-defendant allegedly fled from a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint, carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint resulting in the death of a victim, and attempted to carjack two other vehicles.

SANTA FE Individuals representing themselves in a legal matter can use a free online service to prepare court documents in divorce and domestic violence cases under a new service offered by the New Mexico Judiciary.
 
Known as Guide & File, the web-based application works much like software for preparation of tax returns. Users are guided through a series of questions to fill out and automatically complete court forms online. The documents must be printed and filed in person with a district court.
