SANTA FE Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed Daniel Gallegos Jr. of Albuquerque to the Second Judicial District Court, Criminal Division.
 
Gallegos fills the vacancy created by Judge Alan Malott, who retired in October.
 
Gallegos has served as a judge on the New Mexico Court of Appeals, the state’s second highest court, since January. Gallegos is also a U.S. Navy Reserve Lt. Commander, serving as a reserve international law attorney for Naval Forces in Europe and Africa.

Kenneth Winston Starr, J.D., will present, “Investigating the President, Now and Then: Living in a Constitutional Quagmire” at The University of New Mexico School of Law on Wednesday, Jan. 23. 

Starr will present his lecture as a Distinguished John Field Simms, Sr. Memorial Lecturer.

FBI: Mescalero Apache Man Gets Three Years Probation For Assaulting Federal Officer

ALBUQUERQUE Gerald Castillo, Jr., 30, an enrolled member of the Mescalero Apache Nation who resides in Ruidoso, has been sentenced in Federal Court in Las Cruces to three years probation and ordered to pay a $1,000 fine for assaulting a federal officer.
 
Castillo pled guilty Aug. 3 to a misdemeanor information charging him with assaulting, resisting or impeding a federal officer. SANTA FE Attorney General Hector Balderas successfully secured the conviction of Gary Gregor, former teacher in the Española School District, for his sexual assault of multiple 4th grade students during the 2007-2008 school year at Fairview Elementary School.
 
A jury of Gregor’s peers found him guilty of 3 counts of 1st-Degree Felony Criminal Sexual Penetration, 5 counts of 1st-Degree Kidnapping, and 4 counts of 1st-Degree Criminal Sexual Contact.
