Joshua J. Montoya of Velarde is slated for arraignment Wednesday in the First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe for allegedly stealing large amounts of copper from Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) last year.

Groups from communities near the former Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant today sued the U.S. government for failing to comply with federal environmental laws in planning to build public trails and a visitor center at the former plutonium facility.

Casper Cly, a 26-year-old Los Alamos resident and former Los Alamos National Laboratory employee is scheduled for sentencing May 23 in the 11th Judicial District Court in Farmington. Cly was originally charged in Aztec Magistrate Court with four counts of child solicitation by electronic device and was bound over in April 2016 to the District Court.

Police Nab Brothers Attempting To Cash Forged Check

Two brothers from Albuquerque were arrested Monday at Los Alamos National Bank in White Rock after one of them attempted to cash a forged check for $2,250. Eric Sanchez, 29, and Kevin Sanchez, 24, were in a car in the drive-through area when Los Alamos Police Cpl. Gabriel Nieto responded to a report of someone attempting to cash a stolen check.

John Joseph Lerma, 42, of Albuquerque and Rosalinda Hurtado, 38, of Alcalde are facing a total of 54 charges in some 17 cases originating in Los Alamos Magistrate Court and now in First Judicial District Court in Santa Fe. Lerma and Hurtado were reportedly in a romantic relationship when they allegedly committed multiple crimes including check fraud, identity theft, forgery, fraud, and fraudulent use of credit cards, against Los Alamos residents of all ages from high school students to the elderly.
