Celebrate American Legion’s 95th Birthday Saturday With Corned Beef, Cabbage and Live Entertainment

POST 90 News:

The members of the American Legion Post 90 invite the community to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day and The American Legion’s 95th Birthday Saturday, March 15 at the American Legion Post 90, 1325 Trinity Dr.

Corned beef, cabbage and potatoes will be served beginning at 2 p.m. for $8. Members and bona fide guests are welcome to stay for entertainment and live music provided by singer-song writer Sue Barr starting at 7 p.m.

3 packages spaghetti noodles(cooked, rinsed and cooled)
4 -5 pounds of chicken thighs
2 large onions-diced
1 small head garlic, minced or pressed
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon MSG
1.5 tablespoons salt
1/4 cup fish sauce
1 to 2 squeezes of lemon
1 to 1.5 pounds cabbage,sliced thin
1 bunch of green onions, chopped thin
three-quaters of a bunch of cilantro, chopped
2 tablespoons of hot chili powder (for hot version)
2 tablespoons paprika (for mild version)

2 ½ pounds of ground beef
1 medium onion, diced
4 cans of Brooks Hot chili beans (mail order) or 4 cans of Hormel chili beans, hot with beans
6 oz of tomato paste
4 cans of kidney beans, drained
48-64 oz of V-8 juice (depends on how saucy you like your chili)
2 tablespoons chili powder
1 tablespoon of New Mexican hot chili powder

Hawk Hangout Brings Breakfast to LAMS

LAMS News:

Los Alamos Middle School (LAMS), with the help of Summit Foods, will be in the breakfast business during of the month of March.

LAMS Principal Rex Kilburn worked with students to create the Hawk Hangout, which will hold an inaugural event at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, March 6 in the cafeteria, and if successful, will continue Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the month. Hawk Hangout also will feature music and hands on opportunities for youth to start their day on a creative note.

Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church will host its Annual Blini Breakfast 9-11 a.m. Saturday, March 1. Russian blini, a type of thin pancake, will be served in traditional style with smoked salmon, herring, butter and sour cream. Ingredients

1 unbaked pie shell, thawed
12 oz. pork chorizo
6 eggs
7 oz. manchego cheese, grated
1 cup of green chile, drained
1 1/3 cup potato (1/2 chunks)
 
Directions:
Slice the chorizo casing and put the meat into a fry pan. Fry the meat about 10 minutes, until the mix is a little drier.
