The Blue Window Bistro is having the first of what will become an annual Wine Dinner at 6 p.m., Sunday July 15.

The dinner includes five courses and five paired wines with fine wine specialist Phillip de Give.

The cost is $75 per person and reservations are required. Call 662-6305.

Filling:
8 cups cherries, washed and pitted and halved
½ cup sugar
5 tablespoons cornstarch
½ teaspoon mace or nutmeg
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
 
 
Topping:
1 1/4 cup flour
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 teaspoon baking soda
¾ teaspoon salt
2 eggs
butter – for dotting the top

Island Flank Steak
  • 1 1/2 to 2 pound flank steak
  • 1 cup Teriyaki marinade
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/3 cup mango juice (found in fresh juice area)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped rosemary, fresh
  • 1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
  • 4 large cloves garlic, pressed
  • black pepper
  • Reserve 3/4 cup of mix for basting during cooking.
 
Mix all marinate ingredients together.

***** Make sure to mix up the Jello layer first (needs time to set up a bit.) Use a 9 x 13 pan
 
Ingredients:
CRUST:
  • 2 cups crushed small stick (sticks only) pretzels (about 6 oz). I find it best to crush them in the bag they come in. Take what you don’t need out and put them in a different bag.
  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 3 Tablespoons sugar

FILLING:
  • 1- 8oz cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1- 8 oz cool whip
  • 1 cup sugar
TOPPING:
  • 1 large strawberry Jello
  • 3 cups boiling water
  • 1- 16 oz

My name is Sue York and I am going to be writing the new food section, “Food on the Hill” of the Los Alamos Daily Post.

My hope for the section is to share recipes and photos on how to make them. 

I will also have restaurant reviews and local menus posted, and maybe even some local food travel.

Pancakes, Arts & Crafts this Saturday

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos is hosting a Pancake Breakfast on Saturday, May 5th at the Betty Ehart Senior Center from 7 – 11 am.  Stop by for a delicious breakfast of eggs, sausage and pancakes before heading over to the lawn at Fuller Lodge for the Los Alamos Arts Council’s Arts and Crafts Fair.  

The Los Alamos Arts Council has presented arts and crafts fairs in Los Alamos since 1967. The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos was founded in January 1948. It is the oldest service organization in Los Alamos.

Tom Rheam Trio Plays Blue Window Bistro April 21

The Blue Window Bistro in Los Alamos will host a Jazz Night featuring the Tom Rheam Trio Saturday, April 21. Tickets are $15 per person and dinner reservations are required. 

The Trio will perform 7-9 p.m. Tom Rheam plays trumpet and piano, Dick Hogle plays drums and sings and David Moir is on bass.

Rheam has played on the road with Ray Charles, played backup to Frank Sinatra on recordings, toured with the Glenn Miller Band and many other well-known professional singers and musicians.
