At 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 14, local writer David Mutschlecner will read from his latest publication. Los Alamos Master Gardeners Association To Present Talk On ‘Invasive Insects–Vigilance Is Key!’ Thursday Aug. 7

At its next meeting, the Los Alamos Master Gardeners Association will present Bethany Abrahamson, Cooperative Extension Agriculture Agent from Sandoval County, who will speak on the dangers and realities of invasive insects in New Mexico.

Having worked as an entomology and nursery inspector with the New Mexico Department of Agriculture for nearly 10 years, Abrahamson helped protect the state from invasive pests, including Japanese beetle and pecan weevil.

SANTA FE — Santa Fe Community College (SFCC) along with higher education and industry partners has been named as a semifinalist for a proposal in the National Science Foundation (NSF) regional engines competition.

The proposed initiative would address water scarcity and resilience across the Southwest. Firefighters with the Los Alamos Fire Department (LAFD) are utilizing the old Chamisa Elementary School in White Rock this week as a training platform to sharpen their skills. Child & Adult Care Food Program Provides Free Meals To Thousands Of New Mexicans In FY26

SANTA FE — The Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) is providing free nutritious meals and snacks to thousands of New Mexicans at participating childcare centers, schools, and adult care facilities statewide in Fiscal Year 2026.

Meals are offered at no cost to families at most participating centers, including Head Start programs, public and private pre-K, licensed childcare, before- and after-school programs, emergency shelters, hospitals and clinics, and adult day care centers.
