PEEC & LEWF To Host Eat Like A Bear Event Aug. 22

The community is invited to join the Pajarito Environmental Education Center (PEEC) and the Land of Enchantment Wildlife Foundation (LEWF) to eat like a bear, 6-8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, at the Los Alamos Nature Center, 2600 Canyon Road.

Information For Parents As LAPS Prepares To Welcome Students To 2025-2026 School Year

LAPS News:

Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) will welcome back students for the start of the 2025-2026 school year on Monday, Aug. 11.

“We’re excited for the start of the new school year, and look forward to seeing our students,” Superintendent Jennifer Guy said.

School hours:

  • Elementary students (preschool through 6th grade) will attend 8:10 a.m. to 2:40 p.m.;
  • Middle school students will attend 8:40 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; and,
  • High School students will attend 8:30 a.m. to 3:40 p.m.

Middle and high school students will follow a special 7-period day schedule the first day of school.

New Mexico Awarded National College In High School Alliance Grant To Expand Dual Enrollment Access

SANTA FE — New Mexico has been selected as one of seven states to receive a College in High School Alliance (CHSA) grant aimed at expanding dual enrollment opportunities for high school students, particularly in rural and low-income communities.

Los Alamos Public Schools Transportation Department Reminds Drivers To Obey School Bus Safety Rules!

Monday, Aug. 11, is the first day of school for Los Alamos Public Schools (LAPS) for the 2025-2026 school year.

School buses will be sharing the road with drivers commuting to work, as well as parents dropping off students at school and high school students driving themselves to school.

Once again, the LAPS Transportation Department would like to remind drivers in Los Alamos and White Rock to exercise caution when it comes to school buses, bus stops and the students who ride those buses, as well as inform the community about the law regarding school buses.
