Give Credit Where Credit is Due on Education Reform

Last year, high school graduation rates in New Mexico improved 10 percent over recent historic rates, from the low 60 percent range up to 70 percent.

 
For the second year in a row, Hispanic New Mexican students enrolled in Advanced Placement (AP) classes have the highest completion and graduation rates of all AP students in the country.

These are fantastic developments that are justly lauded, and which the current governor is rightly touting – for which she is incorrectly taking credit.

Local Occupational Therapists Share Skills With Nicaraguan Children

In mid-March, three occupational therapists, six OT students, and a physical therapist will spend two weeks in Matagalpa, Nicaragua, where they will collaborate with Nicaraguan teachers and therapists in a cultural exchange. Students will live with host families in a full-immersion environment, where they will speak Spanish and learn about Nicaraguan culture.

SANTA FE – Legislation to improve the way New Mexico picks regents to run the state’s universities has received a “Do Pass” from the House Education Committee.

House Joint Resolution (HJR) 7, sponsored by Rep. Jeff Steinborn, D-Doña Ana, would create a constitutional amendment allowing voters to establish nominating committees to recommend qualified regent candidates to the Governor for consideration.
