SAN: Enjoy it, This Only Happens Once a Year…

Los Alamos has a rich, public night life once a year, and local adults are being asked to be a part of it. Each year, volunteers help at a community-wide, downtown celebration for Los Alamos High School graduates known as Senior Appreciation Night or SAN.

LAHS Hires Ainsworth as Boys Head Golf Coach

HILLTOPPER News:

Anders “Andy” Ainsworth has been hired as the Boys Head Golf Coach for Los Alamos High School. 

He takes over for Ann Stewart (who was hired as Head Girls Basketball Coach.)

Ainsworth served as a volunteer this past year and is a math teacher at Los Alamos Middle School.  He was an assistant golf coach for the Men’s and Women’s Golf Team at Western New Mexico from 2008-2010, and has been a boys and girls basketball coach (both assistant and head) and an assistant volleyball coach at Coronado High School.

Rotary STARS Trivia Competition To Support Youth Fitness Program

STARS News:

A newly-formed satellite group of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos called STARS (Service to All Rotary Satellite) will hold a fundraising event 4-7 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at the Dixie Girl Restaurant.

The theme of the event is “Are You Smarter than a Fourth Grader?” and all members of the community are invited to join. The evening’s events will include a trivia quiz competition that will be fun for all ages, as well as an all-you-can-eat pasta buffet with salad, drinks and dessert.

The Pajarito Astronomers, in conjunction with PEEC, will hold a special County-Sponsored Dark Night starting at 8 p.m. (sunset) Sunday, May 26 at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park.

Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze. The main event of the evening will be looking at the tight grouping of three planets in the west: Mercury, Venus, and Jupiter.

Grease is the Word at 7 p.m. May 20!

Grease is the word! Since the start of year, the dance students of Los Alamos High School have been learning and perfecting the art of ballroom dance and will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, May 20 in the Dwayne Smith Auditorium. LAHS teacher Natasha Barkhudarova teaches her students the fundamentals of dance and performance and in this case, the dances were inspired by the musical Grease. The students dance everything from the convivial quickstep to the passionate rumba. There will be singing and dancing and everything in between during the show.
