Breaking News: No Injuries as Wind Damages Barranca Elementary Roof

BREAKING News:

Early reports indicate that severe wind damaged a portion of the roof in the 200 wing at Barranca Mesa Elementary School a short time ago.

There have been no injuries reported. Emergency responders are on scene as is Superintendent Gene Schmidt.

The Family YMCA After School Program has been canceled for today.

Chamisa Book Fair to Benefit Oklahoma Victims

CHAMISA News:

Today is the last day of Chamisa Elementary School’s Buy One Get One (BOGO) free Book Fair.

Chamisa is keeping the book fair open until 3 p.m. today for community members who wish to stop by and purchase books to help Moore, Okla., which was hit by a devastating tornado that leveled two elementary schools.

Chamisa does not make any money from this book fair and has two staff members with family in Oklahoma who have volunteered to take the books to Moore.

Barranca Students Shine in Nationwide Math Test

BARRANCA News:

Two Barranca students placed first and second in a nationwide math test called “Kangaroo math.”

Danielle Ensberg placed first in the state and Leah Wolfsberg placed second. Both girls happen to be in the same class at Barranca Mesa being taught by Mrs. Ladino.

The mission of Kangaroo math is to encourage students to:

  • Master their mathematical knowledge;
  • Give them confidence in their ability for comprehending mathematics;

All three Los Alamos High School students attending the 2013 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair earned Grand Award Places during the Awards Ceremony Friday May 17.

Isaac Hayden Memorial Service 3:30 p.m. Wednesday

LAHS News:

The Los Alamos High School Student Council is holding a remembrance service for Isaac Hayden at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 22 at the memorial garden at the high school.

“Isaac was a sophomore at LAHS who died back in March,” Student Body President-Elect Soumyo Lahiri-Gupta said. “The Los Alamos High School Student Council felt it right to have a remembrance service for Isaac at our memorial garden in order to make sure he is not ever forgotten at our school.”
