Cinema Cindy Reviews: ‘Independence Day: Resurgence’

“Independence Day: Resurgence” is one of those films with too many characters, not enough backstory, taking place in too many locations around the world (and on the moon). As one gets lost trying to keep track of all that and translating the pseudo-science babble of the dialogue, it becomes necessary to suspend belief in finding any coherence—don’t try to make sense of it and you’ll do just fine.

Tuesdays At The Pond Features Undercover Gangsta & The Soft Vatos 7 p.m. Today!

This week Tuesdays at the Pond features Undercover Gangsta & the Soft Vatos. Collin McClenahan and Jake Bonn and are both from Los Alamos and play acoustic versions of rock and punk songs.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. today at Ashley Pond Park. Bring a blanket and picnic dinner and enjoy Undercover Gangsta & the Soft Vatos.

Tuesdays at the Pond, a summer entertainment series, runs through Aug. 9. It brings a variety of entertainment acts to the Ashley Pond stage in downtown Los Alamos every Tuesday evening.

Actor Devon McCleskey of Los Alamos High School has won a 2016 Jimmy Award.

The eighth annual National High School Musical Theatre Awards were held Monday at the Minskoff Theatre on Broadway in New York. McCleskey won for ‘Best Performance in the Ensemble’. 

McCleskey competed at the Jimmys following his win as Best Actor at the Popejoy Awards in May in Albuquerque.

White Rock Children’s Parade And Carnival July 4

The annual July 4th Children’s Parade and Carnival will be held again this year at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 366 Grand Canyon in White Rock.

The Children’s Parade begins at 10 a.m. after a brief flag ceremony and singing of the National Anthem. Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts will lead the parade. Children of all ages are invited to decorate their bikes, trikes, wagons, scooters and themselves to march in the parade, which is escorted by the Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments. Read More

“Finding Dory” is a wonderfully-animated movie about Nemo’s friend Dory and how she got separated from her family. Dory, you may recall (although I didn’t) from “Finding Nemo”, is famously forgetful, or, as she repeats to anyone who will listen, “I have short-term memory loss”. She is a Blue Tang fish with big eyes and (when she’s grown up) the voice of Ellen DeGeneres. Her parents, Jenny and Charlie, are voiced by Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy.

The Kiwanis Club of Los Alamos has taken possession of a massive collection of pyrotechnics and is getting ready for the big show Monday night. All are welcome to Overlook Park to share in this time of celebration together on the 4th of July.
