NMSA Presents ‘House Of Bernarda Alba’ Nov. 5-7

SANTA FE ― New Mexico School for the Arts’ Theater Department is excited to present acclaimed poet, playwright, and director Federico Garcia Lorca’s The House of Bernarda Alba as its second theatrical production this fall.
 
Directed by NMSA Theater Instructor Elizabeth Wiseman, the play will run Nov. 5-7 at Warehouse 21.
 
Written in 1936, The House of Bernarda Alba is a precautionary tale inspired by the rise of Franco’s dictatorship in Spain.

Little Theatre To Present Series Of One Acts

This November, the Los Alamos Little Theatre offers its fifth edition of the 8x10s, an evening of eight short plays, about 10 minutes long each.

“8×10’s Fifth Symphony” has a little bit of everything, from historical drama to tribal customs to time travel to the revealed thoughts of dogs. The plays come mainly from local and regional playwrights.

Community Invited To Hamburger Night Monday

The Northern New Mexico United Way Youth Team is gearing up to host its annual Hamburger Night fundraiser.

This year the event is 5:30-8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26 at High Elevation Restaurant at 1789 Central Ave. It’s the community’s night to dine on juicy hamburgers, take the opportunity to check out Los Alamos’ newest restaurant and help the United Way Youth Team raise funds for youth programs in the local community.

Prices start at $15 for adults and $10 for students and dressing in Halloween costumes is encouraged but optional. Read More

“Learning to Drive” actor Ben Kingsley’s latest film, is both poignant and emotionally satisfying.

Kingsley (Gandhi) plays Darwan Singh Tur, a taxi driver and driving instructor who came to this country for political asylum. One night he picks up a man hurriedly leaving his wife at a bar. When the wife jumps in the cab, too, Darwan witnesses the end of their marriage, right there in the back seat, the accusations and anger. The husband sends her home alone in the taxi, so Darwan must experience in his rear view mirror her desolate deflation as her life falls apart. Read More
