Teatro Paraguas launches its 12th season with a premiere production of Santa Fe playwright Alix Hudson’s play Our Lady of Mariposas, beginning Thursday, Sept.3.

The play, which builds a story of a family in southeastern New Mexico around the massive die-off of monarch butterflies in the winter of 2002, will be presented at Teatro Paraguas Studio through Sunday, Sept. 16.

The Red Elvises return to Ashley Pond at 7 p.m. today for a free concert.

Opening the show around 6:30 p.m. will be the fabulous Los Alamos marching band, the Hillstompers. The Hillstompers will also play when the Red Elvises take a break. The Red Elvises is Los Alamos’ favorite band. You disagree? I went and saw Ricki and the Flash last night. I’m sorry now I didn’t book it for another week. If you like Meryl Streep you will love this film. Among her other talents, that woman can sing! It ends this Thursday along with Fantastic Four, which is no loss.

This Friday we are opening Paper Towns and The Gift. The Man from UNCLE and Mission Impossible will hold for one more week. We will have an early opening of No Escape with Owen Wilson and Pierce Brosnon on Wednesday, Aug. 26.

LACDC Extends Tuesdays At The Pond Aug. 18

The final Tuesdays at the Pond was scheduled for Aug. 11, featuring Marcos Cavalcante and Band at Ashley Pond Park.

However, just announced, Tuesdays at the Pond has extended the successful concert series schedule by one week to include The Silver Lines at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 18.

The Silver Lines are an alternative rock band from Socorro featuring Los Alamos resident and guitarist Matt Broomfield, drummer Nick Davis and bassist Greg Holmes. The three met in school at Socorro and are delighted to be playing in Los Alamos

Shattered Silence Free Concert Aug. 28

This alternative rock band is touring from Houston through New Mexico to California.

They recently played the Rock The Desert Festival in Midland, Texas where Los Alamos concert organizer, Phil Jacobson, was able to meet the band and see them play some great music.

The show, organized by Infinity Squared Music, is 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28 at Victory Faith Church in Espanola, and is sponsored by White Rock Baptist Church.

Come early for fun, games, prizes and more. Meet the band after the show. Donations for the band are appreciated.
