The Los Alamos High School Olions presented this year’s student-directed one act plays in the new Topper Theater Dec. 6-9.

As always, this year’s plays, which ranged from heart-breaking to mind-twisting to bully-breaking, showcased the multiple talents of the Olions.

Khalsa Reviews ‘Flight’

Flight
Review by Dr. Seva SSS Khalsa, DOM, L.Ac.
Well I must admit that it is a real delight reviewing a movie like this. In spite of the subject material, the way this movie was put together, edited and acted, it’s like sitting down for a Thanksgiving dinner with all the trimmings and having your best friends there, too.

If you’re looking for a mature adult film … this is it. I’m a fan of Denzel Washington. Never met him but his acting is always there and he seems to pick the right movies to be in. Flight is no exception.

You’ve probably seen the trailers where he Read More

‘A Separation’ Screens Thursday at Mesa Library

Review by Kelly Dolejsi

The Iranian film “A Separation” (2011) is one of the best films I’ve seen in awhile. It purports to be about putting a child through divorce, and the difficulties of caring for a parent with Alzheimer’s disease. I suppose it is. But it begins and ends in an Iranian court house, and for me the focus really became how people tell their sides, and the fact that there is no truth, or at least no single truth.

Simin (Leila Hatami) and Nader (Payman Maadi) certainly have what in America we call “irreconcilable differences.” Viewers Read More

When Dance Arts Los Alamos Ballet Director and former American Ballet Theatre dancer Christin Severini was a young child, she would spend many hours choreographing and performing elaborate shows for her parents, with the reluctant participation of her younger brothers.

The rest is, as they say, history. The storybook ballet, “Hansel & Gretel”, performing Winterfest Weekend at Duane Read More

Movie Review by Kirsten Laskey

It’s tough to say goodbye to a story that you love. But unlike Bella and Edward, the heroine and hero of the “Twilight” story, it was not love at first sight for me and the Twilight series.

Reading the synopsis of the first book, I thought “Twilight” was juvenile and silly. When my sister lent me her paperback copy of the first book, I grudgingly opened its cover.

Then I tore through the rest book, and then the next one, the one after that and the one after that.

It can’t stand up to the classics of literature but Twilight is such Read More
