DOE’s Environmental Management Hosts Community Day For Legacy Cleanup Work AT LANL 3-5 p.m. Today

The Environmental Management’s Los Alamos Field Office invites the public to meet with Solicitation officials to discuss the Draft Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Los Alamos Legacy Cleanup Contract. 

The Solicitation team is seeking public input for consideration for the final RFP.

The meeting is 3-5 p.m. today, June 13, in Meeting Rooms 2 and 3 on third floor of Los Alamos at the Mesa Library, 2400 Central Ave.

Rockhound Geology Outing: Shark’s Tooth Ridge

Shark teeth in New Mexico? On Saturday, June 18, local geologist Patrick Rowe will lead an outing to Cabezon in search of fossils. Participants can expect to find shark teeth from the Cretaceous Period.

The group will meet at the Los Alamos Nature Center at 8 a.m. before carpooling to the site. Inaugural Mission Innovation Ministerial Pledges Unprecedented Support For Clean Energy R&D

SAN FRANCISCO  At the inaugural Mission Innovation (MI) Ministerial, ministers from all Mission Innovation partners released their respective governments’ plans to double clean energy research and development funding over five years. Ministers also welcomed the European Commission on behalf of the European Union as the 21st partner.
 
Collectively, these 21 partners represent well over 80 percent of global public investment in clean energy research and development, currently totaling approximately $15 billion per year.

Prescribed Burn Planned At Pajarito Ski Area June 15

LAFD News:
 
The Los Alamos Fire Department will be burning three acres at the Pajarito Ski Area if weather permits at around 9 a.m., June 15.
 
The area is a meadow. A fire line will be constructed around that area. Prescribed fires are managed with firefighter and public safety as the first priority. 
 
Smoke from the prescribed burn will be monitored to ensure that the New Mexico Environment Department’s Air Quality Bureau regulations are being met. Smoke will likely be visible from Espanola, Santa Clara and Santa Fe and from Highways 502 and 285.
