LAFD Asks Council To Restrict Certain Fireworks

Los Alamos County Councilors are slated to vote this evening at their regular meeting on a proclamation declaring extreme fire conditions exist in the County and imposing restrictions on the use of fireworks.

If adopted, the sale and use of aerial fireworks and ground audible fireworks including helicopters, aerial spinners, missile type rockets, stick type rockets, chasers and firecrackers will be prohibited starting June 12 for 30 days in accordance with state statutes and the County Code.

Ute Park Fire At 77 Percent Containment

NMDF News:

The Ute Fire has burned 36,740 acres including 26,387 acres on the Philmont Scout Ranch and is now 77 percent contained.

The fire began at 2 :10 p.m., May 31 on Highway 64 in Ute Park between Eagle Nest Lake and Cimarron.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

LAFD Offers Free Project Heart Start Course In Hands-Only CPR At Fuller Lodge Saturday

Los Alamos Fire Department invites the community to participate Saturday, June 9 at Fuller Lodge in a crash course in saving a life with hands-only CPR.

This is the fifth year LAFD offers Project Heart Start to County residents. Three free sessions will be presented at 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. by trainers.

LAFD Mourns Loss Of Former Firefighter Johnny Tapia

LAFD News:

The Los Alamos Fire Department is sad to announce the death of Johnny Tapia who retired from LAFD in 1997 after 24 years of service.

A longtime resident of Espanola, he passed away peacefully June 1 in his home at the age of 73.

Tapia was a Vietnam Veteran and served with the U.S. Navy. He was the life of the party, making many friends throughout his years. He loved going to the casino, taking road trips, spending time with his loved ones and making jewelry.

BLM Announces Emergency Fire Restrictions For Farmington And Taos Field Offices

FARMINGTON, NM The Bureau of Land Management Farmington District is initiating emergency fire restrictions on public lands managed by the Farmington and Taos Field Offices in San Juan, Rio Arriba, Taos, Santa Fe, McKinley, Sandoval, Colfax, Union, Mora, Harding, Quay, and San Miguel counties, beginning Wednesday, June 6, 2018, due to high fire potential. The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
