SFNF Chicoma Fire Ignites West Of Espanola

SFNF News:

A fire ignited Monday afternoon in the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest, nine miles west of Espanola and five miles east of Chicoma peak.

  • Start Date: April 30, 2018
  • Cause: Unknown
  • Size: 20 acres
  • Weather: The winds are out of the southwest, gusting up to 20 MPH.
  • Situation: The fire was reported Monday afternoon. Resources on scene include three engines and a 20-person hand crew. Four air tankers also are on scene, dropping retardant on the fire. In addition, a 20-person hotshot crew headed to the scene late Monday along with two additional fire engines.

BLM Implements Fire Restrictions

ROSWELL  Due to current and projected fire danger, the Bureau of Land Management Roswell Field Office has enacted fire restrictions for the Fort Stanton-Snowy River Cave National Conservation Area and the Lincoln Tracts, parcels of BLM-managed public lands in and around the community of Lincoln.

  • Building, maintaining, attending or using a fire or campfire, except within agency-provided fire grates at developed recreation sites, or within fully enclosed stoves with a ¼” spark-arrestor type screen, or within fully enclosed grills, or in stoves

No Prescribed Burns On SFNF While In Fire Restrictions

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE  Due to overall dry conditions across the forest fire managers announce they will not conduct prescribed burns on the Santa Fe National Forest while in fire restrictions.
 
Monsoon rains forecasted in July could, however, allow fire restrictions to be lifted sometime in the summer. If that happens, and if conditions allow, prescribed burns could resume as well.

French Mesa Prescribed Burn On Hold

SFNF News:
 
SANTA FE  Due to unfavorable moisture levels and weather conditions, fire managers at the Coyote Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) placed the French Mesa prescribed burn on hold.
 
Additionally, forest service personnel would like the public to report any suspicious activity in the Mesa Poleo area where there were two arson fires this year, and in any other areas within the Coyote Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest by calling the Coyote Ranger District office at the phone number located at the bottom of the news release.

Bandelier Reminds Visitors About Fire Restrictions

Following the Stage 1 Fire Restriction that was implemented last week by the Santa Fe National Forest, Superintendent Jason Lott would like to remind visitors that Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in place year round at Bandelier.

BLM Announces Emergency Fire Prevention Restrictions For Santa Fe County

TAOS  The Bureau of Land Management Taos Field Office is initiating emergency fire prevention restrictions on public lands managed by the Taos Field Office in Santa Fe County, beginning today, due to high fire potential.
 
The restrictions will remain in effect until further notice.
