SFNF: Cuba Ranger District Chaparral Piles Prescribed Burn To Start

SANTA FE  To take advantage of favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Cuba Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions on Chaparral piles to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.
 
Weather permitting, crews are expected to treat up to 49 acres of the Chaparral piles.

Los Alamos Fire Department EMS Division Chief Ben Stone has received his Master of Science degree in Fire Service Leadership and Domestic Preparedness from Grand Canyon University and is preparing to pursue a Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership. Mesa Public Library’s original, 24-year-old fire alarm system reached the end of its life. As a result, the Los Alamos County is wrapping up a project to replace and update the system.

Mesa Public Library Open Today … Closed 10 a.m. To 1 p.m. Friday For Fire Alarm System Testing

Mesa Public Library is open today but will be closed 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. It will be closed during that period of time Friday to do a building-wide testing of the fire alarm system.

 

The entire system was replaced and final testing of all devices is required by Fire Code.

 

The County staff apologizes for the inconvenience. As a reminder, the White Rock Branch Library is open Friday morning at its regular hours.

Car Crashes Into Brick Wall At Trinity And Central

This vehicle crashed into a brick wall at about 11 p.m. Wednesday where Trinity Drive and Central Avenue split near the former Hilltop House Hotel. First responders were on the scene assisting those involved. It’s not yet known the extent of any injuries, but the impact of the collision was sufficient to deploy this vehicle’s airbag. A silver pick up was stopped toward the right of the vehicle and appeared to have sustained front end damage. Reminder: Mesa Public Library Reopens 1 p.m. Friday

Los Alamos County reminds the community that Mesa Public Library will not be open to the public until 1 p.m. Friday due to building wide testing of the fire alarm system.

 

The entire system was replaced and final testing of all devices is required by Fire Code.

SANTA FE  Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) plan to take advantage of favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality, and winds and weather forecasts to conduct a two-day prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed. Possibly starting Monday, Feb. 26.  
 
The 755-acre treatment area is approximately three miles east of the City of Santa Fe on the south end between Nichols and McClure Reservoirs.

Santa Fe National Forest Hiring Vets For Fire Duty

SANTA FE  The Pecos/Las Vegas Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest seeks to hire five Veterans to form a crew in support of wildland fire operations for three or more months beginning in May.
 
Duty location is the Pecos District Ranger Office in Pecos, and work will primarily be in support of the hazardous fuels program. VIWF crew members will earn Federal Civil Service pay and benefits at the GS-3 pay grade, and receive crew housing if needed.
