Los Alamos Fire Department responded to a small fire at around 2:30 p.m. Sunday on West Road, which burned about a 10th of an acre. The fire was caused by a tree that fell on a powerline. Pajarito Mountain Ski Area experienced a power outage as a result of the fallen tree and about a dozen skiers were evacuated from a lift. Fabian Lepsch, 2, of Los Alamos and his grandmother had a fantastic visit Monday at Firestation 4. After meeting the fire station chief he was lead on a tour through the station by firefighters Allen and Josh. Both firefighters were extremely knowledgeable and helpful in showing Fabian how fire engines work and what they do. They placed Fabian in the driver seat and he seemed amazed. SANTA FE – To take advantage of unseasonably favorable conditions, to include fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, fire managers on the Jemez Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) expect to begin ignitions on the Joaquin fuelwood unit Thursday, Jan. 11 to reduce the risk of high-severity wildfire.

The National Nuclear Safety Administration (NNSA) has confirmed reports that the Los Alamos Fire Department responded to a minor incident involving a light fixture at a Los Alamos National Laboratory support building at TA-55.
“At about 10 a.m. Nov. 30, 2017, a light fixture in the PF-314 building – a non-nuclear, non-radiological support warehouse – failed,” an NNSA spokesperson said. “An employee responded by pulling a fire alarm and turning off the light switch.”

Amy Woods of Los Alamos has been arrested and charged with embezzlement of $3,500 from the Los Alamos Council on Cancer. Woods was president of the Council when the theft occurred.
The theft was reported to LAPD when treasurer Elida Summers was checking the balances of the non-profit organization’s accounts for year-end summaries.
