Atomic City Transit Bus And Pickup Collide On NM 4

An Atomic City Transit (ACT) “Dial a Ride” bus was involved in an accident at about 6:40 a.m. today on N.M. 4 near White Rock. The bus was carrying two passengers and no injuries were reported, however the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash was transported to Los Alamos Medical Center with unknown injuries. A County spokesperson said that the ACT bus driver took evasive action to avoid a near head on collision with the pickup. The shoulder was soft and the bus rolled onto its side. The Los Alamos Fire Department, with the assistance of the Santa Fe National Forest, is conducting a prescribed burn on 26 acres of County open space.  The area is in the upper reaches of Pueblo Canyon east of the Aquatic Center.

Prescribed fires are one of the most effective tools available to resource managers for restoring fire-dependent ecosystems. These fires mimic natural fires by reducing forest fuels, recycling nutrients and increasing wildlife habitat diversity.

Prescribed Burn Begins On Santa Fe National Forest

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest  are planning to begin the previously announced prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed on the Española Ranger District Sunday, Sept. 27, if conditions are favorable.

Fire managers would like to complete the Santa Fe Watershed burn by the end of September, but that window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, and may be extended further into the fall months.

SFNF Issues Closure Order For Golondrino Prescribed Burn On Cuba Ranger District

SFNF News:

SANTA FE – The Golondrino prescribed burn area on the Cuba Ranger District will be closed to the public Sunday, Sept. 27 until Thursday, Oct. 8 to ensure public safety during ignitions. 

The restricted area is popular with hunters, and since the prescribed burn is planned during turkey and bear season, forest officials determined that a closure order would minimize potential safety hazards.

LAPS Issues Recap Of LAMS Fire Alarm Activation

LAPS News:

The Los Alamos Public Schools released a recap of this morning’s fire alarm activation at Los Alamos Middle School.

At 7:29 a.m. today, the Los Alamos Middle School fire alarm system was automatically activated from a sensor in the hallway between the staff lounge and the art room.

  • LAFD and LAPS facilities personnel were dispatched to check the building;
