SANTA FE — Prescribed fires will be conducted throughout Santa Fe National Forest Sept. 15 through Oct. 31 as conditions are favorable.
These fires are designed to reduce excess fuels, provide community protection, and improve forest health. The start dates and duration of these burns will be dependent on weather, wind, and fuel moisture conditions.

Smoke from the Pino Fire was visible Tuesday evening from a home on the north side of Santa Fe. The Pino Fire was started by lightning within the planned Paliza prescribed fire area. The Pino Fire is burning on Santa Fe National Forest’s Jemez Ranger District, south of N.M. 4 and six miles east of Jemez Springs. It is now 164 acres in size. Photo by Jim Gautier
