Prescribed Fires Planned For Jemez Ranger District

SANTA FE — Prescribed fires will be conducted throughout Santa Fe National Forest Sept. 15 through Oct. 31 as conditions are favorable.

These fires are designed to reduce excess fuels, provide community protection, and improve forest health. The start dates and duration of these burns will be dependent on weather, wind, and fuel moisture conditions.

Body Found in Hotel Room in White Rock Today

Los Alamos police and firefighters responded about noon today to the scene of a dead man in his room at the Hampton Inn & Suites on N.M. 4 in White Rock. According to officials, relatives discovered the body of the Springfield, VA man and called 911. Two Bandelier rangers spent a long night earlier this week searching for six Albuquerque-area hikers, three adults and three children ages 4-7, lost in the park.

SANTA FE – Today and Monday, more firefighters and equipment will be arriving in Jemez Springs to strengthen the Type 3 Incident Management organization on the Pino Wildfire.

Firefighting operations on the Pino Fire are gradually intensifying to take advantage of predicted favorable weather. It is expected that conditions on Tuesday, Sept. 2 will be optimal for aerial and hand ignitions to direct fire to holding and control features.
