New Ladder Truck Delivered to LAFD

A brand new ladder truck was delivered this morning to the Los Alamos Fire Department at Fire Station 3 in White Rock. This is the first major fire apparatus to be replaced in the department’s DOE/LAFD vehicle replacement plan. DOE paid for the truck, which cost $858,566 and has a 105-foot ladder and 1,500 gallon per minute pump, holds 300 gallons of water, and is used in high rise and technical fires and to enable crews to reach rooftops to open areas for ventilation. Letter to the Editor: Police and Firefighter Appreciation Dinner Means So Much

Los Alamos is a great community. To be able to serve as a police officer or firefighter in Los Alamos, for me, is very rewarding. 

This past Saturday, my wife and I attended the annual appreciation dinner held in honor of the Los Alamos Police and Fire Departments. This event is hosted by members of the community every year as a way to show support and appreciation toward public servants.

Iowa Radio Station Reports Identity of Los Alamos Plane Crash Victims

Burrs and the pilot, Mike Fjetland of Harmony, Minn., left the Algona Airport in Iowa last week on a vacation.

Fjetland also died in the crash, according to news reports.

National Transportation Safety Board investigators are on scene today looking for evidence.

UPDATE: The County just released a statement saying The Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) has completed its investigation at the site of the single engine plane crash that occurred at approximately 8:10 a.m. today on Canyon Rim Trail just south of the Los Alamos Airport. The OMI findings have not yet been released.

ALERT: Accident – Traffic at Standstill on Truck Route

TRAFFIC ACCIDENT:

A 3-vehicle accident on the truck route has brought traffic to a standstill at 6:20 p.m. today. 

Los Alamos Fire Department EMS has transpoted four patients to Los Alamos Medical Center.

Los Alamos police have shut down the truck route – motorists should seek alternate routes to allow emergency responders to attend to their work at the scene.

Fire Managers Stop Ignitions on Santa Fe Watershed Prescribed Burn

SFNF News:

Fire managers from the Santa Fe National Forest Fire stopped ignitions for today at 1 p.m. on the Santa Fe Watershed pile prescribed burn.

Thirty-five acres of slash piles were completed with prescribed fire. There will be no additional burning in the area for the rest of the week. Residual smoke will be visible for a few days. 

Through the night and tomorrow, fire managers will monitor today’s burning activities. Tonight, flames / fire will be visible from the burn area, which is located one mile east of Hyde Park Estates. This is expected, please don’t be alarmed.  Read More

Prescribed Burn Planned for Santa Fe Watershed

USFS News:

SANTA FEBeginning Dec. 2 through Jan. 31, fire managers on the Espanola Ranger District of the Santa Fe National Forest will look for suitable conditions to conduct a prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed. 

Through hand ignition firefighters will incrementally burn 115 acres of slash piles located two to six miles east/northeast of Santa Fe, in an effort to reduce hazardous fuels.
