Students and staff were evacuated from Los Alamos Middle School today after a contractor operating a backhoe nicked a gas line.

“The call about the gas leak came in at 1:17 p.m. and LAFD and LAPD were on scene within four minutes,” said Los Alamos Deputy Fire Chief Justin Grider. “The contractor did shut off the gas prior to our arrival. Everybody was evacuated from the school in a safe and secure manner per protocol.” Read More

Police Halt Jail Fight This Morning

LAPD News:

A fight between inmates broke out this morning at the Los Alamos County Detention Center.

Police officers stepped in and stopped the fight quickly.

Los Alamos Fire Department EMTs were called to the scene and are transporting this 24-year-old inmate to the Los Alamos Medical Center as a precaution.

Medic 3 considers this a non-emergency transport.

The cause of the fight is not readily known.

The Aspen Fire is burning on the Espanola Ranger District half a mile south of the Medio Trail, northeast of Santa Fe.

The Aspen Fire is half an acre and putting up smoke visible to residents of Santa Fe.

Los Alamos firefighters, assisted by Los Alamos police officers, located and rescued an adult male with injuries who had fallen near the area at the bottom the Main Hill Road near the wastewater treatment plant a few minutes ago. Udall, Bingaman & Luján Announce Federal Assistance for Santa Clara Pueblo

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senators Tom Udall, Jeff Bingaman and Rep. Ben Ray Luján announced Friday that more than $11 million in federal assistance relief is being made available for Santa Clara Pueblo following recent flooding in the area.
