SFNF: Golondrino Prescribed Fire Update

SFNF News:

SANTA FE — Fire management personnel continue to monitor the Golondrino prescribed fire, which remains within the project area.

All containment lines are holding with no visible smokes within approximately 200’ of lines. A few smokes are visible from Deadman Lookout due to some heavy fuels that continue to smolder. Those fuels are well within the interior of the fire perimeter.

The burn will be patrolled over the weekend by a small crew with a UTV pumper.

Fire crews completed 1,630 acres of hazardous fuels reduction for this prescribed fire project.

Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Claims Office Shows Progress Compensating New Mexicans

SANTA FE — The FEMA Claims Office has published updated claims data as of Sept. 15, 2023. The office has provided $67 million to New Mexican’s affected by last year’s Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Fire.

SFNF: Cuba Ranger District Treats 1,630 Acres Of Hazardous Fuels On Golondrino Prescribed Fire

SFNF News:

SANTA FE — Operations on the Golondrino prescribed fire focused on holding and securing the line yesterday. Now that ignitions are completed, the priority for fire crews on the Cuba Ranger district will be to continue to patrol, monitor and hold the burn until it’s declared out. Four engines are assigned to the prescribed fire.

Fire managers chose to not burn 597 acres in the northeast corner of the project because of forecasted weather conditions and the fire behavior that was observed during the implementation that was not favorable for that portion of the project.

SANTA FE — Fire managers are making good progress with the Golondrino prescribed burn on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF). The 2,227-acre Golondrino prescribed burn is in the Cuba district east of the communities of Llaves and North of Gallina.

SANTA FE — Pending favorable weather and fuels conditions, fire managers are preparing to conduct the Golondrino and Rincon prescribed fires on the Santa Fe National Forest pending favorable weather and fuels conditions.

Santa Fe National Forest/Coyote Ranger District Continues To Monitor Status Of Black Feather Fire

SANTA FE — There was no heat detected within the fire perimeter of the Black Feather Fire, a 2,198-acre lightning-caused fire that started Aug. 5, 2023, as indicated by an IR flight taken on the evening of Sept. 17, 2023.

The Black Feather Fire footprint is approximately 9 miles south of Gallina on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF). It is near the Peñas Negras Trail in the San Pedro Parks Wilderness.
